Psychological evaluations, brain scans and reaction test. Rexars’ thoughts perused the myriad of likelihoods he was to encounter during his interview with the ship’s counselor. Expectedly he was anxious and rightly so as his previous character challenges were successful, he often found them difficult to interpret as they weren’t graded in levels of achievement. Something he could compare, something tangible. Exiting the turbolift the Andorian worked his way through the hurrying crew of the corridors and arrived to find himself stand before the doors of the office. Standing at attention, he bore his eyes into the console, chimed the door and briefly laboured over his own consternation.
I’ve succeeded all examinations, there’s no single reason this one could be any different. I’m here to do a job, and I will. If they’d just put a tricorder in hand.

“Enter!” a cheery voice sounded through the door’s comm.

Inside, the small office wasn’t oppressively so, and there was a sitting area (a small sofa and a couple slim armchairs) tucked on one side across from the desk where another chair was opposite where she worked. On the wall above the sitting area was a moderate sized painting that was clearly abstract with washes of yellows, blues and greys. Beside her desk was a large leafy dark green plant with a single stalk of trumpet shaped flowers in a vivid violet.

The Denobulan psychologist had her chair in front of the plant and she was busy trimming some of the lower leaves with a pair of small scissors. Lifting her head, she gave Omtala a smile bright enough to match her dyed pink hair. “Hello! Tell me who you are and go make yourself comfortable over there,” she said, gesturing to the sitting area.

Lt. Cmdr. Liadra, CNS

Brushing the sweat from his palms along the seams of his pants Rexar stepped with purpose through the open doors of the counselors’ office. Dashing passed the furnishings to stand in front of the chair closest to the desk, Rexar was mesmerized. The swirling vibrances of the bizarre artwork provoked him into an acute nostalgia of Procyon over Andoria. At dawn, the star blazed over the Thran Mountain range, the Andorian hazed through the snow glittered peaks as beams of citrine light rolled down into the valley below. Rexars’ stomach turned as the rumble of avalanche bounded around in his mind while a cramp began to form in his jaw, stiffening his face into a stoic vision of rigorous order. As the thunderous rattle grew, he shut his eyes to think.

They were my friends. They gave me much. If I let this break me now, it was all for nothing. I must focus. I am in control.

Before him, the painting. An incoherent amalgam of colour in a nonuniform pattern designed to illicit a response, and it had. But that’s not what it was to him now. Although visually attractive, only the notion of its presence brought on a distinct curiosity he used to mask his sentiment as he threw a fleeting glance across its frame. Tipping his head down towards Lt. Com Liadra, he pushed out his next few words as they slowly became more fluid.

“CDT. Omtala, Rexar. Engineering department. Reporting for evaluation Ma’am.”

He stalled a moment to consider how to follow his introduction, and to gather his composure. Seating himself discretely, Rexar contained his conflicting emotions and placed his arms upon the chair.

“Thank you for seeing me Lieutenant Commander I appreciate your time. I just want to start by saying that this voyage is the culmination of my aspirations and I’m looking forward to its beginning.”
