OOC: Main Sim? Side Sim? Bit of both?
OOC: TimeLine on this is after the introductions of new crew but before the ‘Dock’ fix. All the other main sim cargo bay threads and the like can carry on. Consider this an alt timeline so you can be doing multiple things at once.
IC:

The orbit was stable and the immediate patterns of the ‘Icefall’ had been logged in the navigation computer for the Endy to avoid them in this shift on the bridge anyway. With senior staff doing senior staff things, mainly Cadets have the bridge at this time. The scenery outside the ship was nice. Glittering icebergs tumbled into the gravity well of the planet Craxus II whose atmosphere was mostly cloud covered but held glittering areas of sea below where the clouds had parted. The water planet was stormy in the immediate view from orbit.

It was in this scene that the comms chirped at tactical. A distress call was coming in - automated - from the Prospector Ship Golddigger. Scans would show that it was not in the vicinity of Craxus II but further out in the system in the vicinity of the two collided Ice Worlds.

Cadet Barvan was assigned to tactical as the distress call started chirping. He’d read immediately that it came from a prospector vessel called “Golddigger”. It was located in the vicinity of the Ice Worlds. This would be interesting.

Barvan then flipped the comm open and responded to the distress signal.

“Prospector Ship Golddigger, this is USS Endeavour, acting tactical officer Barvan, Rank Cadet, speaking. What is the source of your distress?”

Cadet Barvan, Security

There was a pause. In fact Barvan would be on the brink of repeating his call when a reply full of static came through. There was the sound of loud banging in the background that nearly drowned out his voice. Other sounds of creaking metal and something hissing didn’t help the transmission. =^= Crane here of the ‘Digger. Cursed Trolls in the 49’er rammed me! Ming! I’ll have his head for this! Forward compartments compromised. We’re stuck to them. Power loss. Sitting ducks. =^=

=^= Copy Crewman Crane. Tell me, who’re these cursed trolls? What’s a 49’er? And who is this Ming person? =^=

Barvan training as an investigator seemed to come in handy here. He remembered the value of asking very pointed, direct, non-ambiguous questions. It was very clear from Crane’s distress message that there was some hostile party in another ship trying to either board or destroy the Golddigger. They were beginning to take over the ship.

Barvan then, being the good subordinate he is, decided to call in some help from above.

=^= Cadet Barvan acting as tactical officer to all who it may concern. We have a distress signal coming in from a prospecting ship that is being boarded by “Cursed Trolls”. Possible piracy. Need all help I can get on the bridge as soon as possible. Consider preparing a boarding party if this gets hot. =^=

Cadet Barvan, Security

Cadet Kanto looked up from his science station on the bridge at the mention of ‘Cursed Trolls.’ He then prepared to run a sensor scan of the vessel(s). Remembering his place, he looked to the officer in charge. “Shall I run a sensor scan of the Golddigger, sir?” And, lifting an eyebrow, “What exactly is ‘Cursed Troll?’“

Cadet Kanto, Science

Since there were only cadets on the bridge and Barvan was assigned to tactical (and thus in charge), he decided he should order Kanto.

“Yes Cadet Kanto, run a sensor scan at once. As for these “Cursed Trolls”, a description of them is what your sensor scan will be looking for. Assume it is some sort of sentient with the ability to pilot an advanced starship.”

After he was done ordering Kanto to scan the Golddigger, he’d then turn back to the console.

=^= Hold on tight, Crewman Crane, we’re coming. Now tell me, what are these “Cursed Trolls”? =^=

Cadet Barvan, Security

Stepping on to the bridge from the turbolift, making his rounds for delta shift. Rexar marched over to Tactical to assess the situation.

“What’s our situation Mr. Barvan?”

LT.JG Rexar Omtala (CE)

“We have a distress signal from a prospector ship coming in claiming they’re being boarded. Possible piracy. Boarders described as “Cursed Trolls”. Kanto is examining their identity as we speak, sir.”

Cadet Barvan, Security

The reply came through … =^= Crewman?! Cap’n Crane to you. Barman. Talkin to a bleedin bartender! Ming is the so called Captain of the 49’er who rammed his ship into mine. Engines out. My pilot is trapped. Sparky is down with a smack to his head. =^=

Sensors would show that there was a vessel at the source of the transmission. Perhaps two. Together they were perhaps the size of a couple of glorified runabouts. There were readings of energy flares and sporadic power. It was also in a location that can only be considered to be dangerous. Close into the two worlds collided they were surrounded by asteroids and icefields. It was something that would be particularly dangerous for the Endeavor to try to get into themselves being so much larger.
