The following day, Kanto awoke at exactly 0700, enough time to shower, eat a decent breakfast, and clean his teeth. He allowed 15 minutes for quick meditation to prepare himself for the day’s activities, and 10 minutes to walk to the CSO’s office. This would place him there at precisely 0750. He had always felt that you must be early to consider yourself on time. At precisely 0750 on the dot, he tapped the chime to the office, and awaited the response of Lt. Eshrallias, standing at ease with his hands behind his back.

“Cadet, you’re early.” A voice sounded from behind Kanto, rather than before him. If he were to turn around, he would find the Andorian scienist standing with a PaDD in her left hand, and coffee in the other. Taking a few steps forwards, she slid through the doors as they hissed open, gesturing for Kanto to take a seat, should he desire it. “I trust your evening was well?” She inquired, setting the mug down beside another PaDD on her desk, returning the previous to a small shelf, ten feet away. “I apologise for the mess, I only just finished preparing for the day.” She waved a hand, pausing by the replicator. “Tea?”

“Yes, please,” Kanto replied, “Black Tea, hot, if you will.”

“Of course,” Eshrallias nodded, replicating the tea for the Ensign. “Black tea, hot.”

Kanto took the tea, and after taking a sip, he placed it on the saucer and set them down on an empty spot of the lieutenant’s desk. “My evening was adequate. And yours?”

“I am pleased to hear it. I should hope you finished the remainder of your checkins, so you’re all set for work?” Vheris smiled, sipping at her coffee. “Hmm? Oh, it was well, thank you.”

“You are welcome, sir,” Kanto replied. He appreciated the fact that the lieutenant did not indulge in the custom of small talk.

“Have you had a chance to visit the science labs yet, Ensign?”

Lt. Eshrallias
CSO

“Yes, of course,” Kanto answered. “I have seen them, and I welcome the chance to work in one.”

Cadet Kanto

“It will not be a chance, Cadet. It will he a requirement.” Eshrallias grinned. “Before we head out to the labs; do you have any projects you would like to work on? Perhaps continuing any experiments from the Academy?”

Lt. Eshrallias
CSO

“There is one experiment I have been thinking about for quite some time, Lieutenant,” If a Vulcan smiled, Kanto came as close to it as he dared, “I would like to test the effects of chronitons on various objects in real-time.” It was a thesis he had written for his second year at the Vulcan Science Academy, and he had not been able to test it.

“All right,” Eshrallias seemed to light up at the thought. “Tell me, Cadet.. how would you do it?” There was slight restrain behind her voice, the mind of a scientist more than thrilled at the topic of experimentation. Although, she first wished to know just how much of this he had worked out in his head, before they could discuss his progress and future plans.

Kanto thought about this for a good second before he responded. “A chroniton dispersal field inside of a tachyon force field would be the appropriate place to start I believe. With proper safety measures in place, we could introduce any inorganic object to the field and monitor the effects. Then I propose moving to organic matter such as fruits and vegetables.” Again, he paused, watching Eshallias’ face as he explained the process.

Eshrallias maintained an impassive expression, the thin lines of her face relaxed as she studied him. She held this placidity for a purpose, allowing Kanto to convey his initial idea without changing it to fit Eshrallias’ own views. If she had any critiques, she would not make the cadet aware of them until he had finished. Quietly, she implored him to continue with a wave of her hand.

“Since Starfleet has had many encounters with time travel and chroniton displacement, I believe that this research could provide practical knowledge to better prepare for similar circumstances in the future.”

OOC: Sorry, I didn’t see this post when I was re-reading stuff after my vacation :-)

OOC: No worries!!

IC: “I agree with your thesis; it would be beneficial for the future.”

“A viable start,” She continued. “I suggest you consult with an engineer about this project, they will have the tools to assist you in setting up this field. Unless you are planning to simulate the experiment on the holodeck instead?” She rose an eyebrow. The holodeck could offer similar results as practicing the experiment in real time. It would allow him to alter specific variables without exhausting materials.
