It was an interesting experience, Kanto thought. The mind meld was not something he used lightly, and it was unfortunate that he could not gain a personal insight into this entity. But as a Starfleet officer, it was his duty to help wherever he could. He waited, silently hoping there was something else he could do.

Kate strode into the Cargo Bay and glanced around. Unsatisfied with the lack of security personnel there, she rested her hand on the phaser strapped to her hip and walked over to Kanto and Omtala.
“I’m Lieutenant Trent, the new Chief of Security. Can you update me on what’s going on here?” she inquired in a brisk tone.

Kanto stepped forward to provide an update to the best of his knowledge. “Lieutenant Omtala was in contact with some form of alien entity. I attempted a mind meld with him to determine if we could communicate with the creature, but it was fruitless. I was not able to personally contact the entity, although it was obvious that he was definitely in communication with something. The lieutenant could probably explain his contact better than I can,” he explained, then allowed Rexar the chance to tell his side of things.
