OOC: I couldn’t recall if the order had been given to transport the 4 crew that could be transported .. but will assume it has.
IC:

Four pillars of sparkling stars formed then coalesced into people. All were wearing EVA suits that looked more suited (pardon the pun) for a century back and each had seen better days. They had been well used, however, a careful eye could see that they had been very well maintained as well. One person was laying. One was kneeling nearby. One was standing close facing the two; the fourth was facing away. When the transport ended there was muffled speech.
“Vitals are dropping. Adren-4 not helping. Pulse is …” the person realized they were not on the shuttle at this point as did the others. They looked around in startled confusion, but for the one who was looking away. That person reached up calmly to release his helmet and take it off. A middle aged man of what might be Chinese descent was there, thin classic mustache and sharp tuft of a beard, thin, wiry features and balding pate looked impassively around until he caught the eye of someone.
“My daughter is dying. Please save her.”

Kaylee stepped up to gently wrap an arm around the middle aged man. As the order had been given to transport the crew members, she had raced to Sickbay in order to see if there was any assistance she could provide. While she had little medical training, the situation was emotionally charged and she hoped to be able to support the Sickbay staff in their efforts.

“If you could come over here with me, sir, we’ll give the doctors room to work,” she gently ordered.

Lt Cmdr Adrie, CNS

The man responded a tad slower than what might be normal. He did, however move when coaxed. The Counselor would note that his pupils were not quite even. “Work, yes,” he said, his accent distinctly with a Chinese tone.

“Thank you Counselor” Buckingham said appreciatively.

Tom produced his Medical Tricorder from his pocket and moved towards the freshly transported group.
Tom addressed the person who was standing. “What’s the situation here?” He asked calmly. Any information that could be provided would help determine how best to begin to treat these people.

Thomas Buckingham - CMO

The man kneeling was carefully removing the EVA helmet. Dark hair flowed out. The girl was again evidently Chinese, though very pale and her lips tinted blue. She didn’t look to be breathing, or if she was it was very faint. “She took a very hard jolt in the crash,” the man standing explained. His tone also was Chinese, and thick with emotion.

Buckingham knelt with the two and watched as the information appeared on the Tricorder screen.

Scans would show that her respiration was extremely low, her heart beat failing. The principle injury was that her lung had been punctured by a broken rib. On the right side she had two broken ribs and two others cracked. Fortunately there was no further internal injury, though the side was seriously going to be bruised.

As soon as the information appeared on the screen Tom had begun thinking of his course of action. The girl’s complexion, blue lips and low respiration were most likely the result of the punctured lung, which would be what Tom would look to treat first, after having increased and stabilized the girl’s heart rate. The size of the puncture in the Lung and if the Lung had begun to collapse or not would determine if the girl would need to be treated surgically.

The broken and cracked ribs could easily be mended with the use of a Osteogenic stimulator, which could be performed by a Medic or Nurse.

“Nurse!” Tom called to attract the attention of an NE Nurse. NE Nurse Warick appeared by his side. “I need this lady moving onto a Biobed, as carefully as possible please. I’m also going to need her on a Pulmonary Support Unit as soon as possible.” Tom hoped that the use of a Pulmonary Support Unit would improve the girls failing heart rate. “If you need help with that, get the assistance of a Medic or a Cadet.” He added. “I’m also going to need a Osteogenic stimulator please.”

NE Nurse Warick set to her work and Tom stood up and made his way over to the side of the room where he drew up a 2ml Hypospray of Terakine. He also prepared a Hypo of Anesthezine and one of Dexalin. He made his way over to the Biobed that the girl had been placed upon and gently administered the Hypo of Terakine. Tom would wait before even thinking about putting the girl under, as at the moment her heart rate was not strong enough to safely do so.

Thomas Buckingham - CMO

Once she was up on a biobed the status would immediately show with dropping vitals and readings not looking good. The PSU arched into place surrounding her torso and, as soon as it took over, the readings grayed out - those that were her real readings and overlaid by what the unit was doing. Her heart was supported and certain vitals rose, though it was evident that she was going to require surgery; the internal bleeding around the lung was more significant than the initial scan had suggested.

Buckingham stood for a brief moment and watched as the PSU stabilized the girls condition. He was going to have to operate. It would be he first operation aboard the Endy, but he remained calm and unfazed.
He spoke to NE Nurse Warick. “Nurse, I’m going to have to operate. I’d like you to help me. It should be a fairly simple procedure. I’ll open up, use an Auto-Suture to close the puncture in the Lung. Whilst I’m in, I’ll use the Osteogenic stimulator to repair the broken ribs.” Tom explained.
“I’d like to do this as quickly as possible, I believe her condition is too fragile to keep sedated for too long.” He continued.
He has run his method past NE Nurse Warick in order to ensure that everything sounded amenable.

Lt. (J.G) Thomas Buckingham - CMO

The preparations began and soon the moment for the operation was at hand. The fortunate part about the advanced medical technology was that she was able to be sustained artificially for quite some time, though in this case, one wouldn’t want to leave it too long ..

In an ideal world Buckingham would have preferred to perform this operation in the more suitable environment of one of the Surgical Suites, but there was no time for that. Whilst the patient was being prepared Tom had stepped away to prepare himself. He had dressed himself with Surgical Scrubs and thoroughly cleaned his hands before he applied surgical gloves. He had also advised his staff to keep the area around the Biobed clear, seems as Sickbay was currently a little busier than normal.
With everything prepared and ready to go, Tom took one last look at the scan data to more positively affirm the number of cracked ribs, and their location in relation to the puncture in the lung.

Lt. (J.G) Thomas Buckingham - CMO

The data and 3D modeling showed the ribs highlighted in red that were cracked and one in particular that had been the culprit in damaging the lung. In all four were cracked and the latter that had punctured was only generously called cracked when it should be classed as a nasty fracture where shards of the rib were in the region, also contributing to the internal bleeding.

Meanwhile, as the other two crew of the 49’er were working their way out of their EVA suits one of them stumbled and collapsed.

Once Buckingham was comfortably aware of the location of the damaged ribs in relation to the puncture in the lung was just about to begin the operation when the sound of a body hitting the floor alarmed him. He took a long look over his shoulder, he was sterile and had a patient ready to be operated on, so he was unable to aid them.

“Cadet Corvax!” Tom called out “This person needs assistance” Tom attracted the Cadet’s attention to the person via a vigorous nod of the head “Find out what the problem is and begin treatment. I’ll be with you as soon as I can.”
The increasing pressure of this situation in Sickbay was begin to make itself apparent in Tom’s mind. Tom return to his patient and took a deep breath. This procedure was going to be quite finicky, so a level head was essential.
Tom performed another quick check to ensure that everything was ready. Satisfied that it was and that the patient was properly sedated, he began the operation. With a steady hand he made an incision over the site of the puncture. The incision was quite large, so it was enable him to better treat the cracked ribs. Then he set to work, first he cleared the area of any fragments of bone that had come from the ribs. He then focused on closing the puncture in the lung. He had just about completed this task when he paused a moment to see how the patient was doing.

Lt. (J.G) Thomas Buckingham - CMO

The patient was young and she remained stable in the operation. While the work was finicky around the lung and broken rib, time and patience was key. Ultimately the debris was clear and the puncture sealed.

Dominic instantly want over the the patient doing exactly as instructed,”yes sir I’ll take care of it right now” he said as he was seeing what problem was and began treating treating it. Dominic was intelligent enough to handle it on his own but he knew he had to let Buckingham over look his work when he was done or near done. Dominic didn’t mind that. He understood it well enough to a degree, even Dominic would get unsure of his work sometimes, so it made sense to him.

Cadet Dominic Cyris Corvax-Doctor

As Cyris reached the man who was laying on his back on the deck, his suit removed down to his waist, Cyris could see blood leaking generously from the suit. His vitals were very low and a scan would show his blood count to be extremely low; he had bled out a critical amount of blood from what looked to be an injury at his thigh that, at the moment, he could see from the scan but not visibly.
