K’Resh sighed as she looked down her boarding checklist and came to her least favourite duty…the boarding psyche evaluation. She pondered putting it off until later but thought better of it and made her way to the counselor’s office.

Taking a deep breath she pressed the door chime to see if the counselor was available so she could get it over and done with.

The door opened automatically, a sure fire sign that the counsellor was free. The room inside was lit softer than out in the main corridor. A sofa lined one side in a sort of L shape around a coffee table. There were a couple of other chairs and some beanbags in one corner. There didn’t appear to be a desk. Some book shelves lined another wall filled with books and nicknacks. There also appeared to be a water feature running at the back of the room on a small table.

The counsellor herself was sitting on the floor, barefoot, perusing a few PaDDs. She smiled as she looked up. “Come in, what can I do for you?” She asked.

K’Resh entered and stood to attention in the presence of a senior officer. “Lt K’Resh reporting for boarding evaluation ma’am,” she replied as she took a quick double take at the counsellor sat on the floor.

“Hi” Skye said from the floor. “Oh great, come on in.” She didn’t get up however. “Grab a seat, anywhere you feel comfortable. Cani offer you something from the replicator.”

K’Resh raised an eyebrow as she pondered how different their idea of comfortable would be from each other as she perched on another annoying comfortable chair. “Raktajino…please,” she added, remembering that humans preferred it if you used niceties. The Klingon engineer took a brief look around the room, taking a double takeat the bean bags and shaking her head before turning back to the counsellor. She stared at the counsellor with a mild look of annoyance and hoped it wouldn’t take too long.

Skye smiled as she got up and walked to the replicator and ordered the coffee and a glass of water of her own. She returned and offered the cup to the woman. “If you’d prefer the floor you are welcome to sit there.” She sipped her water and observed the engineer before her. “No’ a fan o’ counsellors?” She asked, her accent clearly pronounced.

K’Resh sighed as she took the drink and shifted in her seat. “Not particularly,” she added, a little bluntly. She was a Klingon, her emotional & psychological wellbeing didn’t really rank that highly in her eyes. “But I am required to be here, so I am,” she added as she took a sip of the replicators approximation of Raktajino, grimacing a little. She made a quick mental note to rejig the computer’s recipe to her liking.

Skye watched the Chief Engineer and chuckled slightly. “Horrible isn’t it?” She said. Carefully she picked up a PaDD and reviewing the file there seemed content to just sit. “That’s not uncommon you know, a lot of people dislike the concept of a designated ship’s counselor, preferring to seek advice about their problems from friends or take it out in their own way.” She shrugged. “If you don’t want to be here you are free to leave. There’s lots of way for me to evaluate a crew members fitness for duty, this is just the fastest and least invasive.” She said in a nonchalant tone.

K’Resh sighed and shook her head, wondering if she detected a hint of sarcasm in the counselor’s tone. “No, it’s fine, lets just get it over with…” she grumbled as she set her disappointing drink down on the table. “So, what do you want to know then? Why did I leave Qo’nos, why did I join star-fleet, do I have any career aspirations?” she posed as she shrugged her shoulders. She had always found these examinations to be a bit of a tick box exercise for her. She was a Klingon, they didn’t exactly display a depth of emotion in their dealings with others.
