Kaylee made her way onto the bridge, choosing to hang toward the back, out of the way of the bustle. She hadn’t had a chance to observe the crew in action while she excavated herself from her mountain of paperwork, so having a moment to watch the interactions between the crew members as they completed their tasks was invaluable to her.

Lt Cmdr Adrie, CNS

-Lt. jg. Kanto, CSO

At the moment the ice asteroid was descending in an arc toward the frozen giant planet. It too was drawing in other asteroids which was making the situation more interesting and stressful for Kanto. Keeping the area of space clear was going to get progressively more difficult not to mention keeping the Endeavor safe. Plots on the main viewer showed smaller asteroids coming in from all (rear) angles as they were drawn in by the gravity well. One which Kanto was feeling as well.
- Wookiee

“This is looking interesting,” Cassandra remarked as she continued to watch the situation unfold, hopefully, they could get out of this without too much issue.

~Cassandra Rixan~

A small bead of sweat started to form on the Vulcan’s forehead as he tried to maintain his speed and rotation, letting the shields handle the smaller chunks of asteroid. “Computer, set port and starboard thrusters to manual control,” he said, as he pushed the thrusters to keep them from sinking into the gravity well. “Captain, I am not sure how long I can hold us here in our present position. You may want to tell the away team to hurry.”

-Lt. jg. Kanto, CSO

OOC: or launch <G>

Computation simulations would show that the Endy was in less trouble/threat than the descending asteroid holding the downed prospecting ships. They didn’t have maneuverability or shields.
- Wookiee

“Computer, run probability of holding that asteroid steady with tractor beams.” For a Vulcan, Kanto almost sounded frantic.

-Lt. jg Kanto, CSO

=^= Mass and gravity pull 3.48 times maximum tractor power draw. Mass required to be diminished. =^=
- Wookiee

“What about tractoring the ships?” Cassandra asked, reviewing the situation, “Even to just pull them out of the way?”

~Cassandra Rixan~

Kanto nodded to the captain as he made a quick calculation in his head. “Theoretically, we could also ‘push’ the asteroid those ships are on by reversing the polarity of the tractor beam.” He arched an eyebrow as he seemed to be concerned. “But that could also cost those injured precious seconds.”

“Computer. Would it be possible to redirect all power from shields and non-essential systems to boost power to the tractor beam by enough of a factor to move either that asteroid or both ships?”

-Lt. jg. Kanto, CSO

=^= Insufficient power to move the asteroid. Power is available to tractor the vessels from the asteroids. Structural integrity is critical on both vessels. There is risk of them breaking apart. =^=

While the computer defines the risk, the key element is that there is risk in each of the options.
- Wookiee

Torias looked at the readings and asked out loud “would it be easier for a shuttle to navigate towards either of the ships? Their smaller, after all. What if we sent a shuttle to each of the ships instead. Of course, depending on how many lifesigns are on each ship, it might be good to bring some pattern enhancers so we can transport back any survivors.”

Lieutenant (J.G) Torias Paron, CoS

One of the ships, the 49’er .. had been evacuated out as there was less interference with the transporter signal. It was the four in the Golddigger who were the issue with the transporters. Plasma fires and radiation in that vessel was interfering and it appeared that the hatches were jammed on that one not allowing the crew of four to escape.
Wookiee
OOC: Pattern enhancers. Nice.

Having got the information from both ships, Torias looked up and said “There seems to be interference on the Golddigger, we’ll need to send a team in, Captain. I also volunteer myself for this, if you feel I would be more useful there,” Paron suggested.

Lieutenant (J.G) Torias Paron, CoS

OOC: Why does that not reassure me? :P

“Captain, I believe I can reinforce the graviton particles in the tractor beam into a subspace field strong enough to hold the Golddigger together long enough to tow it to safety or at the very least give the away team the time they need to rescue the survivors.”

-Lt. jg. Kanto, CSO

=/\=Lieutenant Paron to the bridge, do we know how many lifesigns are aboard the golddigger?=/\=

Lieutenant (J.G) Torias Paron, CoS

OOC: For continuities sake - GM has answered this in transporter room post already
Ben

=^=One moment,=^= Cassandra responded, tapping a few buttons to access the data stream on the nearby console, waiting for it to inform her of the answer.

“Make preparations to reinforce that tractor beam Lieutenant, let me know when you’re ready,” she spoke to Kanto.

~Cassandra Rixan~

Kanto adjusted several controls, that, when activated, would allow for the graviton particles to move in such a manner that the tractor beam would essentially become a ‘force field’ for the Golddigger. In theory, it would be able to hold the ship together long enough to get the survivors out.

“Ready, Captain,” the Vulcan responded.

OOC: Apologies all. My job is sometimes a lot to deal with during the week, so I may get really close to posting late sometimes. I know the sim has been moving fairly quickly, and I feel like I’m not doing all I can to keep up.

-Lt. jg. Kanto, CSO/Curtiss

OOC: Understandable. Oddly enough I have issues with posting on weekends even though I supposedly have more time. .. Gene
IC:

The computer projections showed that it ‘should’ work. The structure of the two runabouts were built well and since then reinforced. Yes, the collision and the impact with the asteroid didn’t help that, but for what happened, the projections did look like it might work.
- Wookiee

“Let’s do it, the projections seem sound,” Cassandra ordered.

~Cassandra Rixan~

Kanto nodded, replied with an “Aye, sir,” before contacting the away team. =^=Kanto to Away team. I am initiating a tractor beam to hold the Golddigger steady and give you time to rescue the crew.=^= He cut off the channel and tapped the button. The tractor beam initiated with its telltale hum and held the Golddigger in place. “Computer, estimated time to hold the tractor beam in its current status?”

OOC: Amended my post with a contact to away team which I am communicating in that thread as well. -Curtiss

-Lt. jg. Kanto, CSO

Cassandra continued to monitor the situation, hopefully they could get the Golddigger crew out without further complications.

~Cassandra Rixan~

Scans of the asteroid were showing an increasing fracturing along the central axis; the asteroid itself shaped not unlike a dog bone. While it may in part have been due to the impact of the two prospector ships the greater likelihood is that the gravity of the planet that it was falling into was creating greater stresses on it. It was going to crack open, perhaps in minutes.
- Wookiee

Kanto quietly resolved to monitor the situation, awaiting orders while trying to puzzle out a solution to the asteroid’s status…

=^=Rixan to away team, what’s your status? We may need to pull you out quick, we’ve managed to hold the asteroid steady, but it’s looking like she wants to fracture,=^= Cassandra tapped her badge.

~Cassandra Rixan~

“Captain,” Kanto stated, in his matter-of-fact Vulcan way, “I have not completely studied the schematics of the Endeavour, being a scientist, but do we have grapple cables or a magnetic tether? I may be able to get us in position to tow the ship if need be.”

-Lt. jg. Kanto, CSO

After a moment, a response came from the away team.

=/\=Away team to Endeavour, we have visual on what we think is the crew, approaching now. The ship isn’t going to hold for long anyway, captain.=/\=

Lieutenant (J.G) Torias Paron, CoS

=^=Acknowledged, thank you for the update.=^= Cassandra responded.

“I’m not sure,” she nodded to her CSO, she tapped a button to pull up an equipment manifest, “You never know though what they might throw on our ship.”

~Cassandra Rixan~

Bulk replication is possible for those items. However it was iffy on whether the structural integrity of the prospector ships were sufficient to enable them to be raised/moved.
- Wookiee

Kanto let out something that sounded almost like a sigh before he caught himself. He really wished he was in his Science Lab right now, but right now, he was one of very few people on the ship that could multitask to this level, holding the ship’s position while maintaining the integrity of the tractor beam and reinforcing the shields to take the brunt of the asteroids. If that away team didn’t get those people over here soon, they might all be lost.

He did some quick mental calculations in his head. He decided that it was safer for the Away Team and the Golddigger crew if they kept doing what they were doing. “The time it would take to replicate the necessary equipment would probably be detrimental to the Away Team’s success anyway, Captain.”

-Lt. jg. Kanto, CSO

“Understood,” Cassandra nodded, “Let’s just hope the away team can make it quick.”

~Cassandra Rixan~

Kanto turned back to his controls and held the tractor beam steady.

-Lt. jg. Kanto, CSO

Sensors would register a sudden fault line along the near center of the asteroid. Stresses were working on that and pressures were building up there. Time was short …
- Wookiee

The Vulcan looked concerned as he addressed the captain. “Captain, the stress on the asteroid is too much. It looks like it will buckle under the pressure soon. We may have to pull the away team out in a hurry.”

-Lt. jg. Kanto, CSO

“Right, they know they have to be quick, contact the transporter room and tell them to be ready for a quick beam out,” Cassandra ordered firmly.

~Cassandra Rixan~

Kanto nodded, then tapped the intercom button. =^=Bridge to Transporter Room One. Prepare to beam all life signs from the Golddigger at the Captain’s command.=^=

Lt. jg. Kanto, CSO
