It was a quiet morning shift. All command staff were doing their normal routine things - this morning being a calm read of the previous shifts reports, inventory onboards, crew rotations, engineering work tickets - all while sipping their morning brews of choice. Earth, only slightly cluttered by stations and satellites and ships in the viewscreen, rotated as leisurely below them as was their morning.
The only thing to so disturb this casual, relaxed morning, was the bleep of the comms. Twice.
They were to the tactical panel. The first was a call in from Starfleet Command. The second was from the Transporter Room.
