Liz was almost to the Counselor’s door when it occurred to her that she should probably play it straight up with this one instead of trying to hoodwink them like she tried with medical. Challenging the Doc had been a way of finding out if, when things got tough, the Medical Chief would be able to corral in not just the XO but the rest of the Command Staff. The last ship she had been on hadn’t been that well set. The Doc rarely bothered to keep tabs on the Command Staff or even most of the Department Heads. His excuse had been, “You guys know if you need anything… you know where to find me.” Someone on the ship had almost died because of injuries sustained in a spar match gone wrong. The person had told the Doc he was fine, the Doc had shrugged and walked off.

The next morning, the DH hadn’t arrived in staff briefing. Liz found him passed out from a head injury. Liz swore she would never work on a ship where the Doc wasn’t capable of pulling their position (and rank if need be) to get things done. This one seemed perfectly capable of doing both.

As she reached the door, Liz smiled and tapped the chime pad. She wasn’t about to walk in unannounced in case there was someone else in there.

The door opened and a young looking ensign gave Moroveston a quick nod before stepping about the commander. Looking up, Liadra smiled. “Come on in, Commander, and have a seat. Just give me a few minutes and I’ll be with you,” she said as she moved to her desk and began to work at her computer.

Inside, the small office wasn’t oppressively so, and there was a sitting area (a small sofa and a couple slim armchairs) tucked on one side across from the desk where another chair was opposite where she worked. On the wall above the sitting area was a moderate sized painting that was clearly abstract with washes of yellows, blues and greys. Beside her desk was a large leafy dark green plant with a single stalk of trumpet shaped flowers in a vivid violet.

Liadra herself presented as very professional, though the pale pink hair seemed counter to that.

Lt. Cmdr. Liadra, CNS

Liz stepped aside to let the crewman out then stepped in and heard the door hiss shut behind her. “Certainly… take your time.” She said then glanced out the view port before noticing the print on the wall, then settling onto the small couch. She left enough room for the CNS to join her, though she guessed the woman would take one of the chairs.

Typing a few notes, Liadra made sure to capture some of her more critical thoughts about the session she had just finished so that she could write the entry for the ensign’s file properly once she had more time.

“I like the decor. A touch of you without being a catchall of collectibles.” She commented as the woman finished up.

The Denobulan gave one of her wide grins. “Exactly! That was the idea,” Liadra said as she moved away from the and sat down in one of the chairs as predicted. “I either spend too much time in here or not enough, so clutter gets on my nerves. I need my space functional or else I’m too distracted.”

“What about you? What do you prefer in a work space?”

Lt. Cmdr. Liadra, CNS

“Functionality, I think is what comes to mind first. And please, call me Liza*… more informal when not on duty.” Liz smiled and leaned back a bit more. “I have a few curiosities I usually set up around the space. But I admit it’s usually to use as conversation starters if things stall.” She laughed a bit and shook her head. “Since I rarely see anyone one on one, I guess an ‘office space’ isn’t something I’ve given much thought to. Being XO I should probably give it some though, huh?” She smiled at Liandra.

“I’ll probably leave it pretty sparse to begin with and see how it develops with the mission and the ship. Does that make sense?”

((Wrap up for to CNS departure))

Liz smiled as the councilor agreed. They spent a more time discussing the XO’s expectations for but herself and the crew. With promises to each other to be honest and open, Liz left with a great feeling of comfort from the councilor. This was going to be a good crew after all.
