Character Biography

Physical Description: Dvorak shaves his head on a regular basis and maintains a goatee. His “eyes” are mostly blue. He has very broad shoulders and a large frame for his height.

History: Johann Dvorak was born on June 22, 2354, on Earth. His parents are both retired from their respective professions.

Johann’s childhood was quite normal for a human growing up on Earth: safe, secure, and pretty boring. At least it was until 2367, when the Borg was stopped just short of assimilating all of humanity by the crew of the Enterprise-D. Since he was thirteen at the time, this event had a profound influence on Johann just as he was starting to think seriously about what he wanted to do when he grew up. Since he already had a budding interest in science, and found life on Earth to be dull, he decided to apply to Starfleet.

He was accepted to the Academy in 2372. He did well, and managed to graduate in 2376. That sounds rather ordinary, but during that same period there was a coup attempt, the Dominion War, and the Breen attack on Earth. Despite all of that, Ensign Dvorak graduated and was assigned to the Quantum Mechanics department on the USS Dauntless, a Galaxy class vessel.

In 2378, he was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade and was assigned to the night shift Operations position on the Dauntless. He held the post until the ship was destroyed later that year by a group of rogue Cardassians. Dvorak survived the space battle, though with multiple injuries, and he spent the rest of that year recovering from his wounds at Starbase 12.

From 2379 to 2381, Johann was assigned to the research outpost on Upsilon Mu X. It was an assignment he had requested, thinking at the time he had gotten his fill of adventure for a while, and that it would be nice to get back into doing research again. The research turned out to be rather meaningless, and he almost quit Starfleet completely, until he was reassigned as a last minute replacement 2nd shift ops officer on the USS Dalton, a Nova-class science vessel.

The Dalton’s mission was to conduct an in-depth planetary survey of █████, as well as to ████ a █████████ of the ███████████████ ████████ ████. After several days, the mission was interrupted when a ██████ ███████ ████████ and █████████ to ███████ the ████████. Most of the senior staff was killed when a ████ on the ██████ ████████ ██████ ███, leaving Dvorak in command for the return trip, which was lengthened by the considerable damage the ship had suffered. However, the ship did eventually return to Starbase-12, even though there was difficulty docking due to the ████████ ███ that had ████████ the █████ ████. Dvorak █████████ the ███ and later ███████ ██ █████ ██████ █████████ ███████████ that had ██████████ the ████████ ████. For this and and for returning the ship and the █████████ intact with most of the crew alive, Dvorak was promoted to full Lieutenant and was given a recommendation to attend Command School by ███████ ███.

Lieutenant Dvorak was sent to Starfleet Command School in 2382. After completing the program in 2383, he was promoted to Lieutenant Commander and assigned to the USS Korolev as Executive Officer. While leading an away team from that ship in 2386, he was blinded by exposure to ultra-violet light. He opted to have ocular implants to replace his eyes, more about them is in the medical history below.

In late 2387, Dvorak was promoted to Captain by Fleet Six Command and assigned to the USS Europa.

Medical History: Dvorak’s eyes have been replaced by ocular implants. The implants are distinguishable from normal eyes, but only by individuals observant enough to notice some of the fine mechanical details on the irises and pupils. Their visual range goes from Far Infrared to Extreme Ultraviolet, which is more than standard human vision but less than a VISOR or a more sophisticated set of implants. Johann rarely chooses to view any part of the spectrum outside the standard human visual range. This is in large part because he finds the interface for the implants extremely awkward, having only used them for a year and a half.

Mentally, Johann is healthier than one would expect, given the long list of stressful situations he’s been through during his relatively short career.
