BACK STORY:
Adinah joined the Starfleet Academy for mostly the wrong reasons, not that she ever told anyone that, but ended up staying for what she tended to hope were the right ones. She originally applied because she wanted to get out of the house and have the opportunity to, as she saw it, spread her wings and not be tied down with caring for her younger siblings. After her first year in the Starfleet Academy it stopped become a mode of escape or freedom and instead became a dedicated interest.

Adinah originally debated joining the science track for the chance to research and explore but quickly fell into medical due to the fact it allowed her to learn about science but also care for fellow officers. Most of Adinah’s school life was spent studying but, mainly through a desperate need to form study groups, she was able to gather a small group of friends around herself as well and has been leading a rather pleasing, if wholly mundane, Academy life.

While Adinah still enjoys the idea of Starfleet being an adventure, she is now more concerned with the fascinatingly different health needs of the many Starfleet species and is mostly driven by the innocent desire to learn more. Her love of learning also resulted in her knowing a little bit about a lot of things, but never knowing a lot about anything other than medicine. She is also debating joining a ship and then returning later to the Academy to teach, but such thoughts often war for her desire to learn outside of a classroom in a way that can only be met by traveling on a starship and exploring the galaxy.

Before Adinah decided on epidemic disease work, she specialized in emergency response and combat zone medical. Due to this specialization, Adinah quickly developed extensive issues with anxiety. Determined to move past what she saw as little issues, she threw herself into active work and was at the scene of a number of emergency both on Earth and off. After nearly having a break down on site of a three shuttle crash, Adinah finally decided to change her specialization, but such memories and the idea that she failed in those situations still haunts her and sometimes causes her to freeze or panic in high stress situations.
