______________________________________ BACKGROUND:Nathan grew up as an only child to his father Thomas, having lost his mother to complication of childbirth. Nathan was always a bright young boy who always felt on the outs with his father, whom had a distance to himself after the loss of his wife. This resentment caused Nathan to try and take a different path from his father, himself a psychiatrist, as he graduated early from high school and began his medical career. After finishing pre-med, Nathan found himself hearing stories of war orphans and torn families in the frontiers after the wake of the Dominion War, and joined Starfleet.
While in Starfleet Nathan was often seen as quite the charmer, having many women fawn for his attention. Near the end of his time though there was one woman that she seemed to see past his shallow caviler persona. This changed as the two fell in love quickly but the timing was leaving much to be desired as the two graduated only to find each other split into two parts of the galaxy.
Nathan began the next part of his life stationed on the USS Hartford as it helped in war torn areas, serving as both part neurosurgeon and combat medic. During this time he grew dark and hardened, seeing the worst the galaxy had to offer his callous caviler styles of his youth became more of a shell or armor to keep anyone too close. In time Nathan couldn't take much more of bombed villages and dying children or children assimilated by the Borg. He asked for a transfer back to Earth, where he took on the role as Assistant Chief of Neurosurgery.
While back on Earth, Nathan had a chance to reunite with Chloe, whom he had kept moderate contact through letters and Spacebook. Finding they had far more in common the second time around, the two quickly reunited as she became expectant with their first child. It was during this time the two got married and left Starfleet in which both began to peruse a career outside of the paths Starfleet made for them.
Nathan goes back to Oxford with his young wife as he learns the very thing he loathed as a child, psychiatry. His father and him were never close even as the years went by but Nathan did find a connection in the career choice his father had as he got his second MD and began a career as the Chief of Psychiatry at John Hopkins on Earth.
Years went by for Nathan and Chloe as the two's family grew and grew with more kids, Nathan himself finding himself drawn to the stars more as his wife grew worried she would lose him once again due to his love of helping others in far reaching places. Nathan became fascinated with trying to help children assimilated by the Borg be free from the Hive from time he spent with famed scientist Seven of Nine whom he meet during his tenor at Hopkins. It was her who in time convicned him he needed to rejoin Starfleet and do good back in the stars.
As light years separated Nathan and Chloe heartache and resentment began to seep in. Their marriage was not one that could take being apart, and choices made left Chloe fighting for a sense of normalcy on terrafirma while Nathan gallivanted through the Galaxy. After almost three years on the USS Loki as Nathan worked to help those around the galaxy Chloe found she could no longer stay by his side, separating from him while unbeknownst to her two months pregnant. At this time Nathan felt he needed to win his family back, and helping others meant little if you lost the ones you loved as he sought to find a post on Outpost 42 in hopes to have a place that was more stable and family friendly. Only problem once he arrives, he find his estranged wife already working as a nurse without his knowledge on board...
