Character Biography

Appearan2ce / First Impressions
Supercargo Reed is of well-fed Boomer stock, exhibiting the mixed ethnicity commonly see in old Terran spacer families. “Stores,” as most fleet personnel refer to him, is obviously not from a fleet background. He tends to saunter along in a distinctive bandy-legged fashion; common to sailors and spacers who grew up with substandard inertial dampers. One gets the feeling that he may be more comfortable in merchant marine khaki and brown.
His open and expressive face has the too smooth skin that is typically seen in diplomats, celebrities and particularly vain Admirals; while his clear blue eyes survey his surroundings in an almost predatory manner, giving him an intense gaze that some find intimidating.

Personnel history
Born on the 3rd of January, 2347 to Margaret Reed and an unknown father aboard the EC0012 “Tortuga;” Clinton Reed was raised in the typical “family ship” communal fashion.
The Tortuga was lost during the Dominion war while transporting cargo as part of a convoy; Reed and a few other survivors were subsequently rescued by the Starfleet escort SS “Vigilance”
In the battle, the Vigilance was severely damaged and suffered heavy casualties with Reed himself suffering life threatening injuries.
The damage to the Endeavor and its subsequent low warp limp home through contested territory made for a long journey. After Mr. Reed recovered from his injuries, he began to help out the ship’s engineering department in an effort to feel useful, and perhaps repay them for saving his life.
Having proved himself as a remarkably competent engineer, as well as having extensive cargo handling skills, the Vigilance effectively conscripted Mr. Reed; but due to the loss of his ship and family he had no complaints.
The Vigilance continued to serve throughout the Dominion war, but due to its recent decommissioning Mr. Reed is somewhat adrift on a new ship.

Service notes
Due to “service-related” injury and illness it is deemed inappropriate for Mr. Reed to return to service with the civilian transport fleets. His medical and mental health issues require a level of care above that that can be provided buy a civilian merchant vessel, and his talents make it worthwhile to keep him in Starfleet’s hands.
Further, he has proven unsuitable to assignment as a port master or even as a dock hand at any of our star bases or other stations (see incident reports X1-5723, J3-6541).
In light of his wartime service aboard the Vigilance, special dispensation has been issued by Starfleet Command, Office of the Admiralty to assign him to the Dreadnaught USS “Dresden.” It is hoped that the medical services and culture aboard a front-line fleet vessel will allow him to continue to serve the Federation with dignity.
As of his posting aboard the USS Dresden, he is considered to have earned the rank of Ensign, effective immediately.

Performance notes
Mr. Reed is a competent engineer, well-liked by both his superiors and peers. He is lacking in the finer points of Starfleet discipline and decorum, but his job performance and skills have so far made up for his rough edges.
Mr. Reed shows competence at least equal to most academy graduates, with a special affinity for transporter and replicator systems.
His ‘odd man out’ status has led to him being loaned out to other departments on a regular basis to provide manpower as well as tech support. This has given him a passable grounding in the science, medical, and security fields.
Mr. Reed’s unusually sharp skills with cargo handling and storage in almost any conceivable environment or scenario has also been of some use; and won him several bets if rumors are to believed.

Medical and Psychological notes
Clinton Reed has been treated for multiple injuries in his career, including severe plasma burns, radiation poisoning, and severe brain trauma.
As a result, Mr. Reed is on a continuing treatment plan that includes anti-radiation medications, joint and organ replacement maintenance, and positronic implants due to TBI.
Mr. Reed exhibits signs of PTSD, but despite his history it is well managed at this time.
He does exhibit some mild phobias but has functional coping strategies in place.
