Character Biography

Physical
Tall and slender, Anders Taurean can come across as an imposing presence. He moves with long, quick and graceful strides that betray a background in recreational athletics. His face is almost gaunt, boasting visible cheek bones and a sharp jawline. His eyes are large and piercing, shining like that of a browned pool in moonlight. Anders wears his hair in tight, black cornrows.

Personality
Somewhere in the depths of his psyche there lies a hyper-competent version of Anders. Though he never excelled in school, many teachers often told him that he could, given more effort than he had patience to give. Anders is wrought with self-confidence issues, especially when given time to overthink. Often, he is more likely to remain quiet in a conversation, or be prone to not begin one at all. This gives the illusion of a reclusive and unfriendly man on the surface. Anders remains polite and unobtrusive, however, which some find endearing and others disconcerting. In times of tension, though, Anders has been known to step up and act an effective mediator between conflicting parties, as he is a true believer in the power of compromise.

Biography
Born in Buenos Aires, Anders is the son of former Starfleet Captain DaJon Taurean, who helmed the USS Marmaromenos for fifteen years before retiring due to illness. Because both of his parents were older when he was born (his father was 50 and his mother 43), Anders spent a good deal of his youth without effective parental control. Not exactly a “rough” youth, Anders skated through school on minimum effort while focusing all of his time playing basketball and exploring every inch of the city he was born in.

At around 16, Anders began dating Lillian Favors, the daughter of well-known archaeologist David Favors. It was around this time that David helped Anders pursue a passion in archaeology and stellar cartography, and help spell out the bigger picture of a targeted future to a lost young man. A couple years later, Anders was admitted into Starfleet Academy despite mediocre school grades due to an unusually high score on his entrance exam, recommendation from Dr. Favors, and a sense of respect for the former Captain Taurean.

Anders married Lillian at 20, who with age began to turn on the idea of her now-husband entering Starfleet and leaving like her father had done throughout most of her early childhood. She and his mother begged Anders to stay in Buenos Aires and make a life there– a proposal Anders nearly accepted upon learning that Lillian was pregnant with his child.

Kiron Taurean was born when Anders was just 21. At the same time, Anders nearly lost full use of his right arm after a freak accident while playing basketball in a recreational Academy game. Not two months following the injury, Lillian was killed in a shuttlecraft incident on Mars. Forced to leave the Academy for some time to take care of Kiron, Anders considered leaving altogether to raise his son. However, pressure from his nervous mother to stay and confidence from his ailing father to go made up his mind, and Anders re-entered the Academy at age 22, just a year or two out from finishing his time there. His parents agreed to look after Kiron, deciding that Anders himself was too young to give up on a life unexplored.

Medical
Anders struggles with lasting nerve damage in his right arm that flares up with consistency throughout a given day. Although a healthy young man besides that, the injury still continues to affect Anders mentally even more so than it does physically. The pain can be dealt with, mostly.
