Paul was born in the small town of Radiator Springs, located between Chicago and LA on Earth in 2213 to Thomas and Agnes Hudson. His Father worked alongside Paul’s paternal grandfather and his namesake as a mechanic in the towns garage. A job that was passed from father to son. His mother was a dentist.
As a young child Paul Junior would play at his Grandad’s garage and learned to take thing apart and rebuild them from an early age. He was also able to drive by the time he was 12.
His sister, Lucy was born when he was 4 years old. The family remained in Radiator springs as the pair grew with Paul’s father taking over the business after his grandfather retired.
As a teenager Paul would often sneak off with friends to watch the local hover car race team. A niche sport in this time Paul was captivated by the speed and excitement of the events and was delighted when his father was employed to work on the team cars and asked him to assist. The more he got to know the cars the more interested he became in the sport until eventually trying out for the team.
He proved to be a very capable driver and despite only being 16 was signed for the team. He quickly made a name for himself on the local circuits, becoming the main driver for his local team before graduating to the ‘bigger leagues’ as the newest up and coming rookie. He made four stars his first year. He won his first “Warp trail cup”- one of the greatest accolades of the sport- at 17 after dominating the season and again after a second successful season the next year making him the youngest consecutive winner in the sports history. He was offered a contract with Raptor Tech, one of the biggest sponsors of the sport following the second cup victory and drove for them into the next season winning again in a very close finish for the third time at age 19. During the next season, in the warp trail championship’s final lap the hot shot rookie took a turn wrong and crashed. He suffered injuries to his left hand side and 3rd degree burns which left him scared and put him out for the season.
Upon his recovery and return, he was received with a complete absence of fanfare and told that he had been passed up for the next rookie in line. His career was over at only 21. He kept a newspaper article on the career ending crash as a reminder to never return to the life that nearly killed him and then abandoned him so easily.
He spent six months in therapy but then returned home where he locked himself away, bitter and unsure where to go with his life having refused the offer to work with his father due to the pain the idea of working on the cars caused him. Refusing to speak to any of his friends, even his girl friend and high school sweetheart Elanore. And only interacting with his family when he needed to. Eventually his sister, Lucy, turned a power hose on him as he sat in his childhood room brooding and refused to turn it off until he admitted he had an issue and needed to find something to do with his life.
After some soul searching Paul decided to apply for the medical program at the university of Chicago and was accepted.
He worked hard at school throwing himself into his studies and graduated with a speciality in thoracic surgery. He gained a place on a prestigious residency programme at Sacred Hope Hospital in Chicago in 2227 the same year his sister graduated as a Dentist and married her fiancé Richard Wright.
A year later he too proposed and married his girlfriend Elanore who had been staying with him in Chicago. Following his residency he began a career as an attending surgeon at the same hospital until 2232 when he agreed, during couples therapy, to return home with his pregnant wife to Radiator springs and take over as the town’s physician in private practice. The same year his son Charlie was born.
Despite this, Elanore and Paul still had a tremulous relationship with her convinced he was more “married to his work” than he paid attention to her or their son. Eventually she left Paul for a work friend taking Charlie with her.
Hudson once again grew extremely depressed, and roughly about 8 months later by chance saw an advert for Medicine on the cutting edge - Practicing in space. He immediately signed up, entered Starfleet and underwent the course, becoming dual specialised in Exobiology before he was assigned as a junior medical officer aboard the USS McQueen. His divorce was finalised at this time too, though he continues to wear his wedding ring.
After some time serving as both assistant chief medical officer and chief medical officer onboard starships Paul was seconded for a year to a teaching position at starfleet medical. When this was done rather than take an assignment on any individual star ship he signed up as a senior medical officer with the federation’s frontier medic program, working alongside assistant Doctor Duncan Johnson in 2247. In 2249 he was infected with a strain of Dalhousie virus while answering a medical distress call from a local planet for aid with this viral strain that had gotten out of control. Thankfully His assistant was able to finish the vaccine after Paul succumbed to the condition. Both were promoted for their work.
With His assistant leaving to get married and start a career at starfleet medical Hudson decided to take a post on a new starship due to be launched and became Chief medical officer on the USS Sentinel
B. Personality Summary:
- Paul is an experienced Doctor who fits the stereotype grouchy older Doctor. He is somewhat a bitter personality which often manifests as a short temper. Paul takes his work very seriously and is often known for scolding those who get themselves into trouble. His experiences mean he tends to er on the side of caution when confronted with the unknown however he will throw out the rule book in a heartbeat if someone is in need of medical attention, citing his Hippocratic oath was taken long before his starfleet oath was.
Paul was generally healthy as a child save for the expected childhood illnesses and minor injuries that come with having a sibling and a tree on the family property.
His accident is the most notable thing on his record resulting in a severe concussion, multiple broken bones, internal injury and 3rd degree burns. He has scars over his arm, shoulder, neck and throat from skin grafts. Despite the severity of his injuries he healed well and the scars are minimal despite being visible.
