If the Enterprise had a Chapel, the Sentinel has a Church …
Since a young age, Max has wanted to do two things with her life
1) Heal people; and
2) Join Starfleet.
Max was overjoyed therefore when her application to join Starfleet was accepted on her fourth attempt. She did find, however, that she didn’t have the aptitude or desire to become a doctor, and so, instead she became a Nurse.
She progressed through the Academy at a steady pace, nothing overly spectacular, but she had done enough to complete the work required in each subject to receive a passing grade and her practical assessments went extremely well.
Also, while at the Starfleet Medical Academy, during her second year, Max joined the cast of an Academy production of Oliver!, in which she played Mrs Sowerbury, as well as being a member of the ensemble. As a result of this, she earnt herself a reputation of being the nurse who likes coughs and wheezes and diseases called incurable as that was one of her lines from the duet she sings with her husband in That’s Your Funeral.
Two visiting lecturers to Starfleet Medical Academy struck a particular chord with her. One was a Vulcan and the other Andorian. They lectured on the physiology of both species as well as the common and uncommon ailments and medical conditions for both of the Federation founders.
In one Practicum, she was forced to deal with equipment that was badly in need of repairs. It was part of a training exercise in which members of the different departments would work together in order to practice for their careers in Starfleet. The engineers in her team requested her assistance to provide an extra pair of hands to patch up the equipment. So, she learnt about maintenance of some of the more basic medical equipment from her training colleagues, and hopes to be able to help out like that on her ship so that the Engineers can deal with more important items, eg the sickbay biobed instead of the medical tricorder.
Now that she’s graduated as a fully qualified Nurse, she’s hoping to prove herself as being worthy of the uniform, and that she doesn’t have to remove the brain from the heads of any Vulcan crewmates.
