Jean Hugo stands just below 6’ tall and is of fairly average build. Jean has hazel eyes and dark brown hair.

Personality

Jean is fairly reserved. While attending Star-Fleet Academy, Jean worked evenings and nights in hospital emergency rooms and psychiatric units. This well prepared Jean to handle high-stress situations without much reaction or stress. As a result, he is generally cool in hot situations, but afterwards requires time to recuperate.

Jean has been praised as being both measured and compassionate, but at times he is also seen as cold. His generally reserved state evaporates when drinking, but as a near-teetotaler that doesn’t come out often.

Background

Jean was born in the north of France, in Le Mans. Jean’s mother died when Jean was 2, and his father was not involved (Jean would learn later in life that his father died in the 2370s). As such, he was cared for by his grandfather Jules Hugo. The family had few traditions outside of an enthusiastic attendance of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Formula One races across Europe.

Growing up, Jean had an interest in the social sciences and understanding how people and systems influence one another. This resulted in Jean completing training as an Assistant de Service Social, a social worker. Jean worked for several years as part of a SAMU Social unit in Paris, before a series of events brought him to pursue Star-Fleet Academy.

When Jean was in the Academy, there was pressure on him to pursue a Counseling pathway. After all, he had the advanced training and licensure active to conduct counseling. Indeed, Jean’s experience working with SAMU Social and other service providers in Paris made him a good fit for this. However, Jean had not particularly wished to pursue this route. Instead, he pursued a mixture of Counseling and Security courses, with an aim to become a specialist in how to approach complex diplomatic situations, utilizing his social work training for brokering agreements and intervening non-violently, and his security training to manage and prevent dangerous situations.

In assignments until now, he has generally operated in fairly basic security roles with some filling in as a Counselor if the ship’s primary CNS was not available. Addressing conflicts in these two at times adversarial roles has required a delicate and thoughtful touch.
