Background:
Corinne was adopted by the Dalton’s when the freighter her and her parents were on crashed on the Ajilon Prime Colony when she was only two. Corrine was the only survivor and all records of her parents were destroyed in the crash. It is assumed they died in the crash but no evidence of their bodies was ever found. Janey and Kip Dalton raised Corinne as their own daughter on their crop farm in one of the northern settlements. They lived a simple life but Corinne longed for a more adventurous life.
When she was 13, the Klingons attacked the colony during the Federation-Klingon War. They captured the two northern settlements including Corrine’s. Her parents were killed trying to defend the settlement, leaving Corrine once again an orphan. After the colony was freed, her neighbours, Marcus and Deborah Harrison, took her in. They were scientists and she learned a great deal from them. She lived with them until she applied for and was accepted into the Starfleet Academy.
Corinne is a friendly person but given her losses, has a hard time getting close to people, fearing she will lose them too. She is passionate about her work and loves trying new things. With her long, jet black hair and bright sapphire coloured eyes, Corinne tends to attract the attention of men easily. Due to her inability to connect with people on a deeper level, Corinne tended to have flings rather than deeper relationships. A near engagement to Levi Keller, and a serious relationship with the former El Aurian CTO, Alexander Romanov, has opened Corinne up to seeking love, but her more or less immortal existence adds a complication to matters that’s she not quite sure what to do with.
A few months after coming aboard the Saracen, Corinne was involved in an accident on the holodeck in which she died and her consciousness was transferred and stored within the ship’s computer. Given the immense amount of data that was created, she was entwined within every system and has complete control over the ship. However, Cori is fiercely loyal to Starfleet and to her ship and crew. With her new status, Captain Leroux gave Cori freedom to help the ship as she could, including taking over whatever role was required at the time. She often spent her time in Sickbay as a medic given her instant access to the vast amount of Medical information at her disposal. But her deep interconnectedness to the Saracen’s systems led her to take a more active role in the ship as an avatar.
Just prior to her accident Corinne had been investigating leads about her biological parents and her true identity. Eventually she discovered her real name: Vivian Hope Ballard. She however decided upon discovering her new state as a part of the computer to keep the name she had known her entire life.
She earned her official rank of Lieutenant unexpectedly, but she found it useful in her role as Avatar in gaining respect from some of the crew who were wary of her. As SARAH ((Ship’s Avatar Responsive Autonomous Hologram)), she could act quickly, much faster than any of the crew, but she also felt pain in relation to the ship (eg. if weapons struck the ship). Her state was both an advantage and a weakness.
Cori found some brief equilibrium in her life and even began a romantic relationship with the ship’s CE. This all came to a sudden halt when she was trapped in a corner of the ship’s system by a Douwd. It took her four years to free herself and during this time was was disconnected for all sensory input and the passing of time. Her reappearance was rough for everyone, including the CE, and after a time they realized they could not rekindle their relationship and parted ways. Dealing with the deep traumas she had endured thus far, Cori tried to make a place for herself on the ship, including getting quarters with holoemitters. She was building friendships as well, and then without warning disappeared without a trace.
And… in this episode of As the Ogawa Turns, the former Human becomes Human again. Corinne ‘Cori’ Dalton appeared on the ship (delivered through secretive means) and with some help of new friends is walking around the ship in her newly acquired biological body and loving life. Sure, she has endless trauma to work through, but with a new place to call home, a dear friend on board who is likely a lot more, and a new career to explore, she’s ready for it all.
