--------------ACCESSING FILE-------------------

Physical Description:
Dael sports his dark hair trimmed short but leaving enough on top to be in regulation and also to be swept back. Possessing an average build and somewhat tanned skin, he’s not one to typically standout in a crowd apart from the trademark black irises of his species.

Mother: Iostra Stadi (Fifth House Administrator)

Siblings: None

Birthplace: Colony on Betazed IX, August 14th 2368

Entered Starfleet Academy: 2390
-Major in Engineering (Focus in Electro Plasma Systems, Transporters and Sensor Calibration)

Biography:
Dael was born on a frontier colony to his parents Reban and Iostra Stadi. His father was a favored artist among some of the Houses of Betazed and his mother was one of the administrators for the Fifth House. The family moved to the colony of Betazed IX on the edge of their species space as well as Federation territory where she was positioned as the lead administrator for the colony while his father continued his artist work.

On Zed 9, as it was frequently called by inhabitants, Dael was surrounded by both Betazoids and non-Betazoids alike. While life on his home planet could be described as idyllic, the colony was still a more rough and tumble organization. Gaining experience living with telepaths, many of those around him were not and adjusting to that outside of telepath sectors was a struggle he worked to overcome. Neither a slow learner or a genius, there was not much on the colony that seemed to interest Dael, either academically or professionally. It wasn’t till the plague hit the colony that he found his place. A terrible disease spread throughout it’s inhabitants.

Dubbed the “Nine Fever” due to the colony designation and the disease’s seeming “nine lives” in its resistance to cures. Everyone on the colony pitched in to aid one another, but the biggest problem with the disease was it’s lack of early detection. By the time symptoms appeared, the stage of the disease was too advanced for treatment. In a surprising moment of clarity among the constant triage and care, Dael saw reports on how the fever caused massive cellular degradation, similar to the Terellian Death Syndrome. The medical staff identified the cell proteins that were the most degraded, and Dael modified and amplified the colonies systems, jury-rigging tricorders and sensor amplifiers around the settlement so they would register on the cellular level, specifically the amount of proteins most likely to be affected by the virus. Dael’s efforts allowed the medical personnel to identify the early stages of the disease, quarantine those infected but apparently lacking symptoms.
and the ability to formulate a vaccine for the virus.

With that, his fate in Engineering was sealed. He continued to work on projects throughout the colony, and seeing how much benefit they were to real people in need outside of previously boring classroom experiments urged him on. Here he was able to contribute to those around him with the compassion and understanding of a Betazoid, but in repairs and machines he found a single minded focus that took away the complexity of non-telepathic contact and decorum.

After the plague, with the incoming support from Starfleet his colony became less a rough and tumble frontier colony and developed into a world that would make the Federation and Betazed proud. Seeing the aid given and the possibilities offered, he applied to Starfleet Academy. Dael spent the years at the Academy absorbing what he could, enjoying the challenges of repairs and the simple joys of diagnostics and growing to be more comfortable around other species and in his interactions with them. In his later years at the Academy he was assigned to the USS Challenger, where he hoped to prove himself and develop his talents.

Medical History:
- Has had several joint and knee flare ups over the years that have required treatment. On one such flare up, his knee gave out while on a raised platform, causing bruised rib. Possible joint replacement or regrowth options have been discussed but none taken as of yet.
- Exposed to the “Nine Fever” on his colony of Betazed IX. Vaccinated.

Psychological Profile:
Like most Betazoids, Dael can be straight forward and honest in his manner, but also compassionate and understanding. Adjusting to non-telepaths reactions to his abilities and demeanor was difficult as a young boy, but something that he has grown to try and adapt to. He tends to enjoy the focus that comes from solving problems of a non-social sort, allowing the fade of anxiety in comporting himself correctly in front of others while able to feel their surface thoughts. Despite this, he has a nature of non-judgement of others due to outside factors, since for a telepath it’s not what you’re made of or where you come from that matters, but who you are inside. His father’s artistic values have followed him in his improvisation and interest in music, and his mothers order and determination show up in his dedication to his work. As a Betazoid, Dael confronts the challenges of engineering with the philosophy of “people can be difficult, telepathy or not, but machines are a puzzle to be cracked”.
