Personality:
Your first impression of M’rahja Ko may often be that of an even-tempered, good-humored Caitian who is quick to smile and takes her duty as a Starfleet Officer with exemplary professionalism. M’rahja is quick to return jokes or teasing, and knows how to carry a good conversation. Off-duty she’ll seek people for conversation, or busy recreation areas for relaxation. When prompted about the right topics (the arts, music, diplomatic matters) you’ll find her a passionate and well-informed speaker. In short, it’s easy to like Cadet M’rahja Ko and easier still to get along with her.

Where you might struggle to understand, or work with M’rahja, is during those situations where emotions are in play. M’rahja Ko is a rational individual, and does not let her personal emotions or opinions into her professional work. During these moments of high emotional intensity she can easily come off as cold or even ruthless. She does not hold back from the truth, or attempt to “soften the blow”. This extends to understanding the deeper emotions of others, and is ill-equipped to handle a crying person or any strong emotions.

History:
M’rahja was orphaned at the age of five when the civilian transport her family traveled upon suffered catastrophic systems failure. For several weeks she and the other survivors drifted through space as their life support gradually dwindled away. Her fellow survivors took special care of her, kept her busy and never alone. Though the event happened years ago, she could recall those weeks in vivid detail. After rescue, and the survivors treated at Starbase 57, Federation authorities were unable to contact or locate her family.

For several weeks M’rahja waited at Starbase 57. Waited for her unknown family to claim her, for the Federation’s bureaucratic process to decide her fate. One of the survivors, a human female named Lauren Ko stepped forward. She applied to be M’rahja’s guardian as she refused to see M’rahja lost in the piles of paperwork and red tape. Within two weeks Lauren Ko’s application was accepted and their little family was formed. Lauren Ko had a sister on another starbase, and she was happy to open her home to them. M’rahja grew up on that distant starbase, cared for and loved by the two sisters.

The comings and goings of Star Fleet and alien ships were endlessly fascinating, and slowly but surely developed her own interest in Star Fleet. As she had no real passion for science or engineering she applied to the security track. After all, her species had many in-born defensive and offensive abilities, why not take advantage of that?
