Backstory: Rand has always wanted to visit the stars, but she’s not great at science or engineering, and is a bit too soft-hearted to be much good as a security officer. What is she good at? Regulations. Remembering them, implementing them, and how to get around them. The perfect Yeoman. She’s organized and efficient and ten steps ahead of where she needs to be, and therefore the captain is always prepared. Her brother has gone on record as saying “In starfleet it shouldn’t matter what uniform someone wears. After all, if my twin can look great in a dress, I don’t see why I can’t either. And if you ask me? I’ve got nicer legs anyways." Periodically he’ll use makeup to accentuate his features but it’s not his norm and he prefers to reserve it for special occasions. This attitude not only caused Rand a great deal of humor but also frustration. Her response is usually , “But I’ve got the better figure.” Rand and Randy embrace their Scottish heritage as much as possible, wearing the Farquharson clan colors when off duty and most often speaking in Scottish Gaelic between the two of them. Rand was very talented, able to memorize lines with almost photographic accuracy. Her portrayal of characters was moving and believable. She did not finish her time at Stirling because on her 18th birthday, her official debut as a professional actress, her director surprised her with a mob of reporters. Rand was alone without her brother or her parents. Her anxiety spiked and she had a massive panic attack. She told the director she didn’t feel well, but he wouldn’t listen. She ended up having Takotsubo cardiomyopathy. Afraid of the publicity of her collapse and shame over not maintaining her role even under the stress, Rand disappeared. While in the hospital she observed a Yeoman who was attending an Admiral and she noticed how the yeoman was not noticed, practically ignored, but always knew exactly what to do. It seemed like the perfect life for her, so she entered star fleet when she was medically cleared. Her brother postulates that in fact she would have excelled because playing a part is very controlled; there are clear protocols while on stage between the actors and the audience.
