Chandel was born in 2223 on the Freighter Archimedes to parents, Krysten and Raul. Both El Aurians who had fled the destruction of El-Auria, which had been assimilated by the Borg.
Krysten and Paul had at the time been employees of the owners of the Archimedes, so they were off-world at the time.
When Chandel was 18 and had finished her schooling on the Freighter she then applied for the Marine Academy on Earth, specializing in the Sciences , namely astrophysics and astrobiology. She had apprenticed on the Archimedes as a teenager with her father, Raul and had run navigations for him.
She entered Starfleet Academy in 2241 and graduated 2245. She took a leave of absence right after graduation at her father’s sudden death and went back to the freighter to help her mom run it for 8 years.
