Biography:

Born to Callum and Alfhild McKenzie, Seamus was the eldest child with his sister Blaire. Callum expressed an affinity with nature at a young age, and would often wander the lands of the family estate for hours and hours alone. By the time he was in his early teens, he was camping for weeks at time alone, living directly off the land and learning how the various plants and animals lived and worked together to provide a thriving ecology. He also became an accomplished sailor and fisherman, and was a certified fishing boat Captain at the age of fourteen.

His love for the natural world translated well to formal education, and he was accepted to the doctoral program at the University of Edinburgh. He excelled in both academic and field settings, and graduated within two years with a dual Doctorate in Environmental Conservation and Fisheries Management. Soon after he graduated, he was named Game Warden for the McKenzie Clan; and became responsible for all flora and fauna in any territory managed by Clan McKenzie.

His investment in the land mirrored his personal investment in the Clan itself. He studied the history of the Clan and of the lands around them. His knowledge and breadth of personal experience with the historical sites themselves gave him a unique perspective and allowed him to speak on environmental and historical conservation with a passion that garnered him a great deal of success in keeping the land pristine and the history intact. That dedication, coupled with a physicality that was unmatched by all but one other McKenzie brought him the honor of being named Clan Defender, a mostly ceremonial role but one that gave him considerable voice in Clan politics.

It also garnered him access to levels of political influence that he neither wanted nor was particularly graceful at. His ‘direct approach’ landed him a reputation as someone who was tenacious and inflexible… but also a stalwart defender of the land. He made a name for himself when he fought for months to prevent a proposed development with no headway. Upon hearing that Parliament was voting to destroy the old-growth forest to build government facilities, he marched into Parliament wearing a kilt, shirt, and a carrying a traditional Scottish Claymore (as the Clan Defender, it was considered part of his dress uniform). He stood before the assembled politicians and said for all to hear “I swear… by the blood and bones of my ancestors laid to rest in that land centuries ago… if you touch one… just one… tree or blade of grass… I will kill you all.” He was, of course, arrested immediately and spent 90 days in jail. But the vote failed… not a single ‘Aye’ vote was cast.

Seamus lives on the Clan lands, but not on the estate proper. He instead has a traditional home built out of all natural materials in the middle of the Highlands. While lacking in modern conveniences and power, it has all he wants. Tools are furnished by his sister, and accomplished blacksmith; and the only modern touch is a comm station. Farming and animal husbandry meet all his needs, and he spends many nights alone, simply watching the world unfold before him. He has never been off-world and has little interest in doing so.
