History:

After graduating from New York Community College in computer science, Tom felt he wasn’t good enough or excited to take this career. He had an offer from an agency and worked as a computer maintenance staff. This profession might sound boring, but the client was the Federation. More specifically, Daystrom Institute. The nature of this work allowed him to travel to different regions on Earth or space. But he chose to stay. He was satisfied, but all had to be end after an accident.

He was on his second assignment in the Middle East, south region. The job was to upgrade the local infrastructure. Even most areas were using technologies, some preferred old-fashioned living styles. That day was particularly hot. The convoy he was in had an engine failure that triggered explosions. The next thing he knew was in a hospital bed. He was one of the survivors that day, but his injury on the head left him occasional headaches. Soon, he was terminated from the contract two weeks later for being unable to work.

After six months of rehabilitation, he was sentenced to be free. One day he was at a hotel, where he found a notice sign that said “Joint presentation from Harvard University and Star Fleet Academy” He thought perhaps he could gain something from the meeting. So he went. He didn’t know this was a second chance given from the above.

Surprisingly, no one attending that event was interested in the most famous institute. The Star Fleet Academy was represented by Tim Walsh, a retired Lieutenant from the JAG Corps, and his wife, who was an active duty Lieutenant Jr. Grade. After the event, Tom went straight to the two and made some conversations. After he told the story, Mr. Walsh not only showed some sympathy but also agreed to write a recommendation letter if he had made his decision. The rest was history.

Medical History:

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

TBI is also known as an intracranial injury, which is an injury to the brain caused by an external force. The blast wave or similar physical force may damage his brain further both physically and mentally. He occasionally suffered from headaches during asleep, but that was getting rare now. He was sensitive to movements around him.

Service Record:

2397- Ensign of Science Department, USS Viking, 5th Fleet
2393-2397 Science Cadet, USS Challenger, Star Fleet
2389-2392 Computer Maintenance Staff
2385-2389 New York Community College, Bachelor of Computer Science

Quotes to be remembered:

“Let’s see, why-little-tom-ended-up-on-her-mighty-squad? Number one, the HR made a mistake. Number two, the academy was trying to create a scientist slash engineer. Three…because of you.” - Cadet Little with the CSO on USS Challenger

“I see, in that case, may I ask you to join me?” - Cadet Little with the CMO on USS Challenger

“Maybe it wasn’t wise to talk about the retirement plan on the first day of office, but … this cadet was instructed to maintain total fitness on a daily basis, support and assist the Department Head on making recommendations to the Commanding Officer whenever needed. Writing happens after I transitioned back to civilian.” - Cadet Little with the CNS on USS Challenger

“So, if we’re in the mess hall, assuming everyone is holding a drink, that would be an intuitive model of the whole universe!” - Cadet Little with another CSO on USS Challenger

“Security, I need an energy beam down there. Adjust the phaser to power transfer, 2.0% output. I’m transferring the coordinates to your console. On my mark… Fire.” - Cadet Little on the bridge of USS Challenger

Area of Interests:

After being recommended by the JAG Corps officer, Tom had developed an interest in this occupation. However, he wasn’t much into prosecuting or defending someone else’s potential violations of the rules and regulations but giving advice to those who may need it. He believed that law and agreements should serve as protection rather than prosecution. Besides science courses in the academy years, he studied International Law and the Law of Armed Conflict (things before the New United Nations was formed) just to change the taste from the routine formulas. The thing that held him back from pursuing this career was also the uniform he’d be wearing, as he wasn’t a fan of red, except food or drink.
