Umbri Zayne was born in 2240 in Salem, Massachusetts, USA with the name Carolyn Hawkins. When they turned 18, they were disowned by their parents after coming out as gender-neutral and pansexual. Following this, they changed their name when they entered Starfleet Academy in 2258, wanting a fresh start. They also chose to stay with female pronouns out of fear that people would react the same way their parents did.

Umbri pursued Security out of a passion and desire to protect people. They also studied Music Composition and piano while they were at the Academy. After graduating in 2262, Umbri received their assignment as a security officer to the USS Chernov, where they are presently stationed, and where they recently officially came out as gender-neutral and pansexual. They were also recently promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade and are currently the Weapons Officer.

Personality
Since they were disowned by their parents, Umbri initially didn’t make friends easily and had a habit of burying themselves in their work. When they weren’t working, they usually kept to themselves and their music.

But this quickly changed when they joined the USS Chernov. Though their passion for music has only grown stronger, they have become a lot more outgoing and have gained three new friends in Ensign Kastarak, Sega’a, and Lt. Commander T’Aria. People who know Umbri well have described them as passionate, brave, kind, and honest.

UPDATE
Umbri recently returned to the USS Chernov after taking a break to work on themselves. This included reconciling with their parents and reclaiming their birth surname, Hawkins. They hope to start fresh with a new look and a much more open personality.
