HISTORY
Lana was born to Jardis and Raya Zazuri on the Trill homeworld with a twin sister Valara. Both grew up hoping to be hosts, like many others for the symbiotes. She excelled in school, but did not make herself into a rising star, other than doing quite well. Driven to succeed, she did, but alas she was not selected to become a host. Her parents wondered whether it was because of her lack of achievement or because of being a twin. It was found that she was indeed suitable and capable of being a host, but she simply did not make the candidacy.

Infuriated, her parents insisted she enroll in advanced education through the Trill Ministry of Science. There again, she excelled, and found that her time there was well spent and she enjoyed studying Astrophysics and Stellar Cartography. At home things became more intense as each year went by her parents sought for her to become a host. She’d had other ideas though by now, spending sometimes hours a night with one eye fixed to the sky with an old fashioned telescope or a digital one on the roof. Sometimes she was out with the astronomy club with friends that likewise had eyes toward the sky. Lana finally had enough of it after another argument with her parents to try again. She decided as soon as she completed her degree she would leave home and head for other shores.

Her parents tried to keep her from leaving, but soon she found her way to Earth, and enlisting in Starfleet. Already an accomplished scientific mind she focused into the basic areas of training. She found she had a knack for Warp Theory, but she’d had an interest in that for a long time. Her studies in Warp Theory and Applied Dynamics weren’t enough to keep her entertained. She found herself getting involved with a young man by the name Jimmy Long who introduced her to Tai Chi Chuan and Wing Chun. The physical activity and mind-body connection eschewed in the training she found she enjoyed, and pursues it to this day. Also the challenge of feeling out an opponents force and movement and ones own can be quite fun.

Once she graduated from Starfleet Academy Basic, and Starfleet Science Academy with a degree in Warp Theory & Applied Dynamics she decided to try her hand at Officer Training School, and did well. It was here that she discovered that she had developed a stubborn and determined streak which resulted in her taking the Kobayashi-Maru a second time. The second time was about as close to a win as most cadets could come without actually cheating. The instructors noted that fear was not something that seemed to cross the cadet’s mind though, but rather frustration. The failure of the Kobayashi-Maru test a second time was poignant turn of events, and was a lesson in and of itself, on how one could do everything possible that was right, and could still fail.

Sobered by the experience, Lana graduated a more seasoned and balanced young Trill woman. For a time she did shuttle and cargo runs from Earth and Mars to Saturn and Jupiter, making the trip until it became a routine. It was then that she was diagnosed and treated for mild depression by Starfleet Medical. It was finally a letter from her parents that jarred her out of it. Deciding that the Sol Sector was too easy for her to be contacted, and that she had better things to do than pilot a small cargo shuttle for the Federation, she requested transfer.

Soon she had transferred to the U.S.S. Clarke, sciences division, working in stellar cartography to help with the ship’s charting duties. There she found that she was much harder to reach and made no attempt to contact home.

It was aboard the Clarke that she met Landon Nellis.Landon was a dashing and imaginative security officer. It was here that she found a friend, partner, and lover. Fortunately their assignments stayed stable, allowing them to stay aboard the Clarke. Eventually the two of them married, with a honeymoon on Risa. It was time well spent and they returned to the Clarke with renewed energy.

Tragedy struck aboard the Clarke almost a year later. Landon was conducting an experiment to modify some torpedoes for an extended detonation rather than releasing every bit of it’s energy at once. There was a catastrophic failure with the warhead and the entire torpedo bay was blown apart. Safety protocols saved the ship from destruction, but Landon and two other officers were never found. They had been vaporized in the explosion.

Lana took the death of her husband with difficulty and took a leave of absence from Starfleet for six months. On her return, she transferred from the Clarke. There she transferred to the U.S.S. Gobi. There she worked with the engineering staff, where her knowledge of warp theory and dynamics served the crew well on occasion, helping to get the ship out of at least two sticky situations.

Aboard the Gobi, with the help of the Ship’s Councilor she was able to cope with the death of her husband much more smoothly and readily. She served aboard the Gobi for six years, being promoted to Lieutenant during that timeframe and serving as an assistant to Chief Science Officer Garret Laars. Laars left for a post aboard the U.S.S. Condor and Lana was advanced to aCSO aboard the Gobi, where she served for a year in the capacity.

Starfleet felt that her experience as an aCSO was time well spent and moved her over to the U.S.S. Stonewall to serve as full CSO there. The stonewall was one of the ships assigned to the border of Klingon Space keeping an eye on the border, and what Klingon ship movements they could pick up. After a few years there and a few small conflicts she requested to transfer to another ship, but left it open to see who out there might want her experience within Starfleet, and the scientific community abroad as part of their crew. With four years at the Trill Ministry of Science, four years at the Academy, and another ten or so aboard ship, she was an excellent candidate for almost any ship out there.

In recent history she has served as Executive Officer aboard the Europa for several months. The experience was good, and educative. After that she was stationed aboard the Ark Angel for a time, assisting Captain Andone. She has since moved on, and took a brief hiatus to return as a guest lecturer for the Trill Science Academy, but has recently indicated she is ready to return to Starfleet.
