Character Biography

Born on a forgotten Orion Colony in the outer reaches of Federation space. A few weeks after she turned seven her home colony was decimated by pirates. A stray disruptor blast during the initial assault hit containers filled with Rossium-K which was mined on the Colony resulting in a devastating explosion that wiped out all the colonists except her. Her parents hid her inside their home basement which saved her life. After nearly two whole days under the rubble, she was saved by a contingent of Federation Marines led by then Major Joseph Karlson. They had been sent there on behalf of the Orion System Government to investigate what had occurred, they discovered and engaged the surviving Pirates and found Tal’lia in the rubble.

She was found by Neema Lar, the Federation Medical Officer assigned to this Special unit and the Wife of Joseph, and saved from the brink of death. They brought her with them intending to find out if she had any extended family but all her kin perished on the Colony. The pair adopted her and raised her alongside their Son Leifur and younger daughter Nilani. For two years she travelled with her new family until her adoptive father was reassigned to Earth.

On Earth, she displayed an interest in flying and Joseph arranged for her to have lessons from the best pilots he knew and by the time she was eighteen she had decided to join the Starfleet Marine Academy to become a pilot. She excelled in her studies and graduated at the top of her class and was quickly assigned to the USS Nemesis to serve as a fighter pilot.

Her friends generally call her Tali or Lia but in her family, she was generally known as Lia.
Her callsign is Malachite Red

Timeline

Physical Appearance:
Moderately tall for an Orion woman, she’s well built but more lithe than stocky but well-muscled. Her dark red hair is usually kept in a short tail gathered behind her head but when lose it hangs above her shoulders. She has grey/green eyes.

Background:
Her biological parents were founding colonists on Hydraxis VI, her mother a freighter pilot and her father an engineer who kept the mining equipment ready. She remembers only fragments about them, she blocked many memories of her childhood after the attack. Mostly she remembers two kind people who wanted to build a new life where they could work as they pleased. After the attack she was originally considered mute, not speaking for a whole year to any adult. She only spoke to Leifur the oldest child of Joseph and Neema and only when they were alone. It wasn’t until Joseph and Neema asked her if she was ok with them adopting her into their family that she spoke for the first time to them.

After they moved to Earth she spent much of her time with her adoptive father around other soldiers, whilst her older brother spent most of his time with their mother. It was then that she showed an interest in flying and Joseph arranged for her to learn to fly under some of the best pilots stationed on Earth at the time. Some of those were Starfleet Starship navigators, others Federation Fighter pilots or even Civilian pilots of great regard.

During those years she was closest to her younger sister Nilani and they spent a great deal of time together out of school. Nilani was more of a peacekeeper and Lia was the instigator to many of their childhood pranks. To the day she considers Nilani her best friend and closest confidant and was the Maid of Honour at Nilani’s wedding and godmother to her Twins.

She was a teenager during the Dominion war and saw her father only a handful of times during those three years but each time he came home more battered and tired than before and when he finally returned after the war ended he was forced to walk with a cane while distressing it also honed in on a promise that he would always return to her and them.

When she turned eighteen she applied and was accepted into the Starfleet Marine Academy where she underwent gruelling training but her years being trained by her father had prepared her for this. She received advanced tactical training and advanced Starfighter training as well as Air Group Command. She graduated as an officer and was assigned to the USS Nemesis as a reconnaissance pilot.

She returned to Earth after nearly two years to celebrate her father’s retirement from the Marine Corps. He retired a Lieutenant-General Commanding the Marine Operations Division. She spent most of her years in service on the Nemesis under Captain Trakan and rose through the ranks all the way to Major and as the CAG of her vessel. She was most proud of having reached Major a full two years younger than her Father had.

She accepted a lateral move from the Nemesis to the Chimera mostly because her CO Trakan was retiring and she felt like her deputy was ready to step up.
