  • Engineering. - Mechanical and electronic skills, including the ability to repair things. There’s a bit of overlap between this skill and Knowledge— where Knowledge is about knowing things, Engineering is about actually doing them.
  • Psychic - Miranda is open to psychic impressions, but also more resistant to psychic attack.
  • Miracle Worker - When she needs to she can repairs take half the time.
  • Brawler - Time on the frontier, mixed with military combatives and a healthy dose of martial arts training means she packs a punch… or kick.
  • Subterfuge. - Spend enough time being tortured, being posted to combat ships and on classified assignments, you pick up some things.

Early Life
Miranda was born on the colony world of New Texas and resided in Stumpton. Growing up on a frontier world can be dangerous. As a result her father Devon Martel passed away when she was still little. Or at least that’s what her mother Elaine would always tell her. Elaine remarried soon after to a doctor named David Scott. David was killed in a clash a few years later, leaving Miranda, her half-sister, and her mother alone once more.

Her childhood was lonely and dull otherwise. Besides her half-sister there weren’t many other children at the colony in the beginning. She was always exploring, looking for new things and had strange hobbies Born with natural curiosity she disassembled nearly everything she could get her hands on, and putting it back together… not always correctly at first.

Elaine worked long hours for the Colonial Defense Force, effectively a private defense force protecting New Texas since they were beyond Federation borders for the time being. This left the sisters alone for long periods, though Miranda proved able at looking after the both of them when they weren’t in school.

By the time Miranda’s primary education was complete, she’d grown into a mostly well-adjusted young woman. She’d been working for a few years by then as a mechanic and engineering hand for the colony, assisting with all sorts of building projects, repairs, maintenance, and even building herself a couple aircraft for her own amusement and flying. She’d become an accomplished pilot as well.

Deciding that the next best thing to do, would be join Starfleet, she applied to the Academy and was accepted after her second try.

The trip to the Academy was long but exciting for Miranda. Boot was hectic. During her training, she caught the eye of a one Captain Alex LeFores. Alex saw potential within Miranda to rise to greatness within Starfleet. And even if she left Starfleet, her potential leadership and other skills would serve her well wherever the young woman went. They still keep in contact from time to time, and sometimes when she needs some advice she can get nowhere else, she can reach out to him.

The Saratoga
After graduating, post cadet cruise Miranda was assigned to the U.S.S. Saratoga, a Miranda-class cruiser. The most notable mission was responding to a distress call. A civilian hauler had come under attack by Romulan pirates. The ship’s shields had been knocked out by a singularity point weapon. She saved the day at the last minute, while under heavy fire by re-energizing the shields and using the inertial dampers to prevent another drain by a shot from the Romulan singularity weapon. From there it became a rather simple engagement.

The Shamshir
Her second tour was aboard the U.S.S. Shamshir - a Sabre-class destroyer - During the second tour the ship was hijacked by rebels. She locked out the main computer. Posing as the ship’s Chief Engineer, she protected the real CE from torture as they tried to get the encryption codes. She bought time for the rest of the crew to re-take the ship, though her injuries both physical and psychological were great.

After the events aboard the U.S.S. Shamshir, Miranda rotated back to Starfleet headquarters for treatment and an easier post. She spent most of her time shuffling logistics paperwork and assisting the engineering corps with new designs. It was administrative with some research mostly, and allowed her time to recuperate.

Return to Fleet
Chafing at flying a desk for the better part of a year, Miranda eventually transferred to the U.S.S. Rebellion, a Maverick-class dreadnaught. The ship was attacked by the Bolay. During the engagement she saved the life of her captain when a piece of shrapnel struck them in the neck. Miranda managed to keep the jugular vein closed off until medical help could arrive, preventing Captain Wallace from bleeding out. Serving out the rest of her tour, and despite a grateful captain, Miranda opted to take a new position.

The Asimov
Fresh from the Rebellion, Miranda has been reassigned to the U.S.S. Asimov, a Brazen-class destroyer in need of a Chief Engineer. Her first position as a Senior officer, she finds herself in a whole new position, and once more jumping into the fire.

Miranda is a curious, courageous, clever, stalwart with a seemingly cheerful demeanor. Intelligent and perceptive with a can-do attitude, she is almost always willing to pitch in wherever she can. Despite having been through a number of horrific, traumatic situations, she has done her best to soldier on. This is not to say she ignores what has happened. Quite the opposite, and has her dark moments, but overall, she tries to see the silver lining in all things.
