Physical Description:
Daggum Hammor is a large specimen, even of the Orion male of the species. He is extremely muscular and carries little body fat. He skin is emerald green, somewhat standard for the Orion race. He has multiple tattoos and brands on his back, arms, and chest; as well as some noticeable scars on his arms, legs, and torso.
Medical History:
Raised in an environment of physical abuse and squalor, he was malnourished as a child; no known repercussions. Multiple scars from physical punishment and fighting. Extreme physical strength, much above average for his species.
Psychological History:
Daggum Hammor is of above normal intelligence for his species, and he posses a strong sense of drive to succeed. This comes from his childhood environment (See Biography Section). He has an aptitude for Engineering and Science disciplines, and has a great deal of interest in puzzles and problem solving. In the past he has demonstrated a lack of ability to control his temper; but trains himself through meditation to keep these outbursts in check and infrequent in occurrence. He does show some signs of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder associated with his upbringing. These symptoms present as infrequent but recurring nightmares and a tendency to insomnia; none of these have proven problematic to his service to Star Fleet. He is a genuinely caring individual, a rarity for one raised as he was.
Biography:
Daggum Hammor was raised as an orphan in the slave markets of Orion. He never knew his parents, and his first memories are those of cages, whips, hunger, and pain. He was trained as a pit fighter, forced to engage in physical combat with other species… or animals of roughly the same size. Victory ensured food, defeat meant going hungry and a beating. He was punished for the smallest infractions, and not allowed to speak for weeks on end. He was kept uneducated, uncared for, and (mostly) alone. He lived this life for over twelve years.
There was one good thing about his life at this time. Another slave, a captured space freighter crew member, taught Daggum to read and write as well as telling him stories of space and the ships that moved through it. Daggum was fascinated by these stories, and for several years he and the man would speak at night after the task-masters had allowed them to sleep. One day, however, Daggum came back from a fight to find the adjacent cage empty. When he dared ask where the man had gone, the slaver began to beat the young man for speaking out of turn. Daggum, who had by now begun to grow up into a very strong fighter, fought back for the first time in his life. He grabbed the slaver and choked him to death with his bare hands. He grabbed the key ring and opened all the cages, freeing the other children and teens. He escaped the building in the confusion.
He spent the next few years on the streets, living however he could. His size made him both a useful tool and a target. He took odd jobs in construction, but he made the most money as a kind of freelance ‘enforcer’, collecting debts and enforcing the rules and will of whomever he happened to be working for at the time. He would have probably been recruited into the Orion Syndicate, if not for the return of his friend some five years after he so abruptly vanished. He found Daggum working in a bar, and for a few moments the two didn’t recognize each other. But when they did, they were overjoyed to see each other. The man, a human named Paul Shaugnessy, had come back to try and buy Daggum out of slavery. He had spent weeks looking for him. He offered Daggum a spot on his crew, helping the engineers. Daggum leapt at the chance, and the two left Orion only a few hours later. Once in space, Paul explained that he was a former Star Fleet officer who had resigned and now worked on his own ship. He knew Daggum had a good head on his shoulders, and they spent several years transporting cargo between systems. Daggum learned a great deal about star ship systems, and by the time he was eighteen had already seen much of the Alpha Quadrant.
One day, the ship was stopped by a Federation vessel. Daggum watched as the Star Fleet officers did their work, and he was amazed by what he saw. He asked Paul about Star Fleet, and Paul told him about his time in the service. Daggum had something he had not had in all his life… a goal outside of staying alive.
He applied to the Academy twice, being denied each time. Rather than being discouraged, he worked day and night on his entrance exams; eventually being accepted on his third submission. He performed adequately in his first two years there. He had a little trouble socially adapting to the rigorous and regimented environment of the Academy. This difficulty, as well as his average performance in his General Studies and his massive frame, gained him a reputation as somewhat of a brutish and non-intelligent individual. This reputation would cause many of his classmates to dismiss his input on projects and group assignments. It wasn’t until he selected and was accepted into the Engineering Section that people began to see there was much more to Hammor than his muscles.
He excelled in Engineering training, graduating in the top five percent of his class. He was one of the few Cadets who was assigned to a non-Academy vessel for his Cadet cruise: the USS William Powell. He served aboard the vessel for only four and half months before receiving orders to the USS Belleau Wood as an Operations officer and being promoted to Ensign. On the Belleau Wood, he impressed his Operations Chief to such a degree that he was selected for early promotion to Lieutenant Junior Grade when many of his classmates were still Cadets or Ensigns. Once promoted, he was asked to take over as the Chief Operations Officer on the USS Manhattan. While brief, his time on the Manhattan was not wasted. He was instrumental in getting not only the gigantic science vessel up and running after it’s trek to the Delta Quadrant; but the Event Horizon Station as well. His logistical prowess was of great use in getting much needed supplies organized and delivered. He was soon selected to return to the Alpha Quadrant and took over as the Operations Officer for the USS Dresden, one of the largest warships in the Fleet. With that assignment came a promotion to Lieutenant Commander.
Again, his time was cut short. Attracting the attention of Star Fleet Special Projects CO Admiral Hallsley, Hammor was assigned to SF Special Projects as the head of Logistics and Materials. While he showed great promise, the role was simply too lacking in excitement. Hammor wanted to be back on a ship, and waited for an opportunity to present itself. That came when he was assigned as the Chief Operations Officer for the USS Athena.
