Rank: Ensign
Occupation: Doctor / Sociology
Physical Description: P’Mala Dawes is a striking figure, bone straight six feet tall with a pallid green skintone. Straight black (currently dyed a deep navy) hair cut short with squarish bangs, a deeply sardonic brow that attempts to hide her true feelings.

Demeanor: Raised on Vulcan by two non-traditional parents and having lived on Earth for a number of years.
She often comes across a little detached or separate, but, for the most part, Dawes has become comfortable with discussing her emotions and sorting them out in a healthy way.
History: P’Mala was born and raised on Vulcan and spent much of her time with her father, a Vulcan religious scholar, Latok, and her mother, Samantha Dawes, one of his former students. They lived together in a home near the L-langon Mountains on Vulcan where P’Mala spent much of her childhood alone, reading. At times, her mother worked with Institute for the Transmission of Vulcan Culture. Her family borders on the heretical, believing that emotions are to be sorted and considered like objects, not repressed.
When P’mala was eighteen, her father and mother began writing a series of book on Vulcan’s shrines as Latok and Dawes, for which they needed to travel widely. Their second book was Religious Murmerations on Delta-Vega and Lethe. Third book, Lessons on Absolute Candor: The Qowat Milat and Surak’s Legacy
She moved, briefly, to Earth and lived in Kentucky with her maternal grandparents Memaw and Papaw Dawes, and attended university for Sociology then medical school on Earth, graduating from the University of Kentucky with a focus on interspecies physionomy.
She worked with a pod of Xindi-Aquatics who lived in a special scientific community in Lake Cumberland, KY.
After her med school and residency, she worked as a doctor in a hospital in San Francisco, where she met many members of Starfleet. At the late age of 30 and with one doctorate already, P’Mala joined the Starfleet Medical Academy to learn advanced regeneration techniques and cutting edge treatments. One of her mentors was a Vulcan doctor, Selok, who was near retirement age and a mentor to many. She lived in an apartment off campus with a Pakled engineer named Grustle. In the Academy, she graduated at the top of her class
In late 2397/early 2398, she joined the USS Challenger
and was praised for her work, alongside friend and colleague Cadet Baptiste, having played a role in a couple missions and holding the first annual Challenger talent show. Notably, she helped NE Morton, who was trapped in an anomaly that appeared after a glass bottle broke, that engulfed half his body into a pocket dimension.
Dawes’s idea was to use the teleporters and adjust them to the pocket dimension’s inherit subspace frequency, phase Morton into the buffers–readjusted back to their original frequency, and, if necessary, use his pre-existing data from the buffer to… restore any missing parts before he was phased back out again. This worked, and after a ER emergency tended by Dawes and Baptiste, Morton recovered.
Before leaving the Challenger, she decided that she wanted to do work that combined her love of Sociology and medicine after mentoring with her Counselor Pilar Halcyone and Dr. Rahm Vesta.
She took a junior medical officer as doctor on the USS Europa in summer 2398.
In her current position on the USS Europa, she has been restricted to administrative duties only by CMO Vock after experiencing a concussion and synaptic disease caused by PTSD during an accident involving an Ensign Morton during her Cadet cruise on the Challenger.
Medical and Mental History:
As a being born from two different species, P’Mala is neither 100% Vulcan nor human, though she shares traits associated with both species. Her appearance, neural system, and neurochemistry is much like a Vulcan’s but her maturation patterns have been similar to that of a human. Hybridization and the way it affects muxed-species offspring is a great interest, as is learning more about her differences and others.
P’Mala broke an arm when she was 9. Otherwise, she has a clean bill of health. Her mother’s family has a history of high blood pressure. Her father’s grandfather died of Tuvan Syndrome. She was concussed once on the USS Challenger after an explosion but recovered. She suffers from a Vulcan synaptic disease caused by PTSD suffered during her Cadet cruise.
She has tenuous communication with her network, but deeply cares for her loved ones–she has a tendency to anxiety and depression but practices Vulcan meditation and goes to therapy as often as possible.
