Amoni Zacharya-Alars (Aza)

Character Biography

Amoni Zacharya-Alars, commonly known as Aza, hails from the planet Trill and spent the majority of her life there until she joined Starfleet at the age of 19. Initially, Amoni had no intention of becoming a joined Trill, as she wanted to maintain her own thoughts and pursue her career as a security officer and pilot. However, unforeseen circumstances led to her becoming a host for a symbiont named Alars, who was previously hosted by another Trill named Zacharya. As a result, Amoni shares their memories, skills, and knowledge, enhancing her aptitude for tasks aligned with their expertise.

Amoni’s skin tone can be described as a light tan brown, adorned with deep brown, almost black double rows of spots cascading from the hairline of her forehead down her neck and continuing to her toes.

Zacharya, the previous host of Amoni’s symbiont, suffered a fatal wound during an explosion of a ship’s warp core, where he served as the Chief Engineer and a shuttle pilot. To preserve the symbiont, it urgently needed to be transplanted into another host. Amoni, an unjoined Trill at the time, happened to serve on the same ship as Zacharya and willingly agreed to become the host for the symbiont, carrying the combined personalities of Zacharya and Alars. The symbiotic transfer bestowed Amoni with knowledge in Starfleet Engineering and Medical practices, as Alars had been a Medical Doctor and a Federation Ambassador, consulting with doctors from various planets throughout many years. Amoni often keeps the details of how she acquired her symbiont to herself, as she did not go through the traditional selection process. This occasionally creates contention among other Trills who underwent the rigorous qualifying and selection process to become symbiont hosts. Nevertheless, due to the dire circumstances surrounding Zacharya and Alars, the Symbiosis Commission recognized the necessity of the transfer and officially approved Amoni as the legal host of her symbiont, which she refers to as Zacharya Alars.

In addition to the knowledge inherited from Zacharya and Alars, Amoni is a trained security officer with impressive combat skills and proficiency as a fighter pilot, having received training at the Academy prior to her leave. It took some time for her to adapt to hosting her symbionts, as she initially struggled to prevent her own personality from being overwhelmed by Zacharya and Alars. Consequently, she took a hiatus from Starfleet and returned to her home planet, where she sought guidance and support to successfully embrace her role as a joined Trill. While her time away from Starfleet may have temporarily hindered her career progress, Amoni knew that with her newfound skills, she could swiftly climb the ranks now that she had acclimated to being joined with her symbiont.
