Biographical Notes
A. Background Summary:
Born in Marseille, France, both of his parents were caught up in the gang activity in the city. Marceau spent his younger years surrounded by criminals and unsavory characters. In his first years of schooling he had several marks in his record of trouble. As would be expective of people into crime, they weren’t very good parents. His father had a horrible temper, and his mother was often absent, more interested in escaping his father’s temper than protecting him from it. They were married, Marceau never knew why they didn’t separate, mostly because he didn’t care.

When Marceau was eleven, he was caught by police pickpocketing people on the street. The officer that caught him, instead of turning him in, gave him a stern lecture and made him give back anything he’d already stolen. Then he offered Marceau a safe place whenever he needed it at the station. Just ask for officer René Benoit. From then on, whenever there was trouble at home, Marceau would go to the police station. Monsieur Gardien de la paix Benoit, and later Brigadier-chef Benoit, became a positive father figure in Marceau’s life. His grades in school improved and he convinced his parents to let him join the school football (soccer) team. He wanted to join orchestra too, but his father wouldn’t let him. It was enough trouble to deal with the sports. His parents never showed up to his games.

Over time, as Marceau visited, he learned more and more about René personally. That René had spent a number of years in America. That he had played football (soccer) himself in school. That René had once had a daughter who died of a congenital condition at a very young age. One day, the whole story came out. René married young, at eighteen (born 2112), and when Starfleet was founded, moved his wife to the States with him to join it. At that time, Star Fleet prospective officers went through the earth-starfleet Accademy, so that was where René went to school. While he was in school, his wife became pregnant and gave birth to a daughter with a congenital defect. She was sick for two years before she died, and the stress of his daughter’s illness and later death, caused him to fail out of the academy. Afterwards, he and his wife moved home to France where he joined the police instead. René had always dreamed of exploring the stars, and it was that passion that he passed on to Marceau.

When Marceau was eighteen, he was accepted to go to the academy to become a Starfleet officer and moved to the States to pursue his dream. He studied medicine and became a medical officer. He also took the command track, wanting to become a Captain. During Academy, he had a long term girlfriend who he dated for several years and was going to marry but they broke up. Near the end of the relationship they were fighting a lot because Lucy was in love with who she thought Marceau was rather than who he really was and they both wanted different things for their futures.
