Psychological Profile:

Subject is open and friendly, with a keen sense of curiosity about species outside of the Vren. They are open and gregarious in temperament, and eager to have new experiences outside their norm. Their comfort zone is very wide, and they feel very comfortable around strangers.

All of this is an overlay of a keenly observant and quick-witted mind with the ability to think multiple steps ahead. They are a keen student of psychology and gaming theory which they have put to quite effective use in political dealings. Planning and anticipation of others is a large part of their psyche; and they are quite adept at orchestrating events to their favor.

Biography:

Born in the nursery / creche system of Tutsikara, Griget Kek was one of thirty eight young to emerge from the nursery. Their creche was note worthy due to the fact that the typical group of young that are marked for the highest levels of the caste system is less than two percent on average; in Kek’s nursery there were sixteen marked for the highest caste - Grocklig - and fifteen marked for Hsssinthis (including Kek), the second highest caste. Many adult Vren took this as a sign of great things to come out of this particular group, and the younglings achieved a kind of celebrity status even before they emerged from the nursery pools. People followed (and still do) the achievements and failures of the members of the creche in tabloids and news articles. Indeed, a collection of autographs from all thirty eight is considered almost priceless in value.

Kek showed an early affinity for communicating and eating tensions; a truly valuable skill considering the innate temper many Vren had. Kek was liked by all of their creche-mates and was popular and friends with many at the Community School. It was during their formative years at the school that word reached the public that there had been a definitive sighting of a space vessel that was not Vren.

The Vren were not alone in the universe.

The Vren government split into two key groups.: Pro-Contact and Anti-Contact. As Kek grew and became an adult, they kept current on how these two groups were shaping Vren culture and such. As a naturally curious being, Kek was always Pro-Contact, but never vocal about the fact. But when the Vren raided a nearby settlement and brought back tales of strange vessels and witnessing beings of an untold number of different species living and working together, Kek became firmly ensconced in the ProC movement. This was a rather significant step for Kek as they were now working in the Vren General Assembly for his region’s Senator. For several years, Kek fashioned policy and bills that supported the funding of efforts to make peaceful contact with other species. Sometimes they were successful, sometimes not. But their efforts made a name and reputation for them, and when it came time for their region to select a new Senator, Kek ran and won easily.

Kek developed a solid reputation for fairness and open communication… at least in public. In private, those that took exception to the young Vren’s agenda tried many times to manipulate, cajole, bribe… even threaten… them into either ‘toeing the line’ or silence. It never worked. Kek was incredibly adept at political maneuvering and back-room dealing. This talent set them on a course to rise quickly through the government ranks… but they chose instead to not seek reelection to their third term. Instead, they took an invitation to help design, develop, and create a new Vren Diplomatic agency.

Kek used his numerous contacts and ability to make deals and open dialogue between individuals and groups to great effect. The Bureau of Diplomacy was started in less than two years and was soon humming with anticipation. I t was then that a looming disaster became known to the Vren.

Several systems away and many millions of years prior, a planet was utterly destroyed. How is unknown, but the remains of that planet drifted slowly and inextricably towards the Vren home world. Soon, the debris will pass between the planet and their sun, and the results will be catastrophic. Global cooling on such a scale that the amphibian Vren and their swamp and marsh world will freeze. Many Vren are terrified that this is the end times…

But not Kek.

Kek has used his position as the lead diplomat of the Vren to reach out to the United Federation of Planets for assistance. Many of the old guard think this shows weakness and that they should simply take what they need from their neighbor. Kek has held them at bay… so far.
