Psychological Assessment:

Wulf Baumann is the embodiment of the Old World meets the New. Raised in a social structure of tradition and formality, he is still at ease in dealing with new social settings and people. This allows him to make connections s with others easily, regardless of rank or perceived social standing. In contrast to this, however, he is also reserved with people at first; not speaking three words when two will suffice. This gives some the first-impression of stand-offishness, even arrogance, but that is not the case.
Baumann possess a keen intellect and is capable of accurate and quick assessments of situations. This serves him well in chosen field of combat-oriented operations. Interestingly, he does use this ability much in meeting new people, thus refraining from asking snap judgements on others.
He possesses a strong will and is not easily turned from a task once it falls to him. This is a double-edged sword, however; as it allows for the possibility that he may refuse to quit even if it is his best interest… and the best interest of those around him.

Physical Description:

Baumann is a tall, muscular, and handsome male. Blonde hair and blue eyes are set in a rugged yet attractive face. He is broad-shouldered and has a heavily muscled frame. He is in top physical condition, more akin to an Olympic athlete than a soldier.

Two identical scars, one on each cheek, run at an angle pointing from ear to chin; a result of sword fighting. He also has a large burn scar on his right ribs and prominent scar on his back from his right shoulder blade to his left hip.

Biography:

Wulf Baumann was born in Dresden, Germany to a noble family who still held a great deal of social and political influence, and indeed wealth. As such, Wulf was raised around a life of a “modern noble”; someone who would command respect and hold authority due to the history and position of his family.
One of four children, Wulf was the eldest son and the designated heir of the familial assets and power. Because of this, he was groomed with the finest of education and social advantages. He excelled in his studies, as he was expected to, and was noted and displaying “a great head for engineering and science”. As these were both acceptable professions for someone of his status to pursue, his parents insisted he attend University to become an Engineer when he finished his primary studies.

For the first seventeen years of his life, Wulf was dutiful to all expected of him. He applied himself to his studies and to learning his family history, being a dutiful son, and a role model for his younger brother and sister. He was even a chaperone for his older sister when she went on dates with potential suitors. As he grew, he grew quickly; both physically and mentally. By his seventeenth year he was well over six feet tall and two hundred twenty pounds, mostly muscle. He was bright to the point of impressiveness with a growing aptitude for engineering and mechanics. It was this year that he began, unbeknownst to his family, pursuing a personal interest in weaponry and combat arts. He discovered that his engineering aptitude was especially geared for small arms and armor including the manufacture and design of his own. His personal training was a different matter. He convinced his parents that a “gentleman must be able to physically defend not only his own honor, but the honor of those who may serve to increase his reputation.” With logic in their mindset, they hired various martial arts trainers to tutor Wulf in various forms of personal combat. He carried on these hobbies as he entered University.

Wulf’s higher education career was planned and laid out for him. A prestigious private university to complete his undergraduate studies, a more prestigious institution to complete his advanced studies, and then into the private sector as a partner in an engineering firm. His parents had his whole life laid out in accordance with their plans to further the family’s endeavors. Two things would change their plans significantly.

First, Wulf discovered that not only did he have a knack for the combat sciences, but he enjoyed them immensely. He was initiated into a student corporation (fraternity) in the Landsmannschaft tradition. In these student organizations, members were chosen based on a common region of birth. With his noble status in the region, Wulf quickly became a leader in the club. These clubs were designed around a single activity: fencing. Specifically, “mensur” style fencing, in which opponents would not move their feet, but try and hit exposed areas with live sharpened steel. It was during these duels that Wulf garnered the distinctive scars across his right and left cheeks. The scars were a symbol of honor and pride to the practitioners of mensur, and Wulf refused to have them repaired. He thought his parents would object when they first saw them, but instead they flushed with pride. Such scars, while rare, still carried some social weight in their particular social strata.

The second thing to happen to shake up his parent’s plans was something none of the Baumann hierarchy could have anticipated. Wulf was spotted fencing by a member of the UEF’s (United Earth Forces) Special Military Operations Unit. Over the next few months, Wulf was interviewed and observed. After he was interviewed by multiple members of the UEF and the newly formed Earth Star Fleet, he was offered a position in their Special Operations organization. Wulf leapt at the chance and dropped out of school after two years.

His parents and family were furious. “He hadn’t even taken a commission! He is an enlisted armorer gallivanting off to who knows where with no concern over how this would effect the reputation of his family! He has no idea how much of an embarrassment he is.” Wulf overheard his mother saying at a family Christmas a year or so later. Wulf knew that his family was upset, but he hadn’t known to this extent. That holiday, his siblings refused to speak with him except to keep up pretense, his mother refused to stay in the same room with him. His father would still talk with him on occasion, but there was a distance that Wulf could not circumvent. The next Christmas was the last he went home, and the last time he would speak to his family.

His time in Star Fleet was another story. He advanced rapidly, as his knowledge of weapons and weapon systems was well beyond the norm. The additional aspect of his personal combat prowess was a bonus, and he was an integral part of many successful missions. After several years in the service of Star Fleet, he was offered a Lieutenant’s commission. A ship tasked with exploration had a need for an Armory Chief. Wulf considered the offer and, after considering it for a few weeks, accepted. He was transferred to the USS Gibson.

His time on board was more than eventful. The first mission went completely awry and left the Command Staff, save for Baumann, stranded planet side. As the senior officer on board, Baumann had to simultaneously keep the ship safe from multiple hostile vessels and coordinate the release of the now imprisoned crew on the planet. Though Baumann said repeatedly that the situation wa not as dire as it was made out to be in the reports, the rescued crew told a different story.

According to their statements, including the Captain of the Gibson, Baumann planned and executed a raid of the holding center with ship’s security forces and indigenous militia forces all the while bluffing the vessels around the Gibson into thinking that other Star Fleet vessels were arriving within moments… when in fact the closest vessel was days away. The results were the rescue were the safe return of all Gibson crew and the safe departure of the ship with no loss of life on either side. For his actions he was awarded the Medal for Gallantry.

Assigned to the SS Maarten Tromp as the Miltary Assault Command Operations (MACO) Commanding Pfficer, Baumann was part of a mission to rrtrieve an alien relic from a black market operating selling unknown alien weapons technology. Baumann led a team of six MACO operators, but due to a security leak,, the black marketeers knew they were coming. Baumann and his team were ambushed and the criminals turned the alien tech on them. Three MACOs were killed and Baumann was severely wounded before the team ended the fight. Baumann was transferred off the ship for recovery.

After his recovery, Baumann was given a choice of assignments, either as an Armory Chief or MACO commander. He chose to to stay with MACO because there was an opening on the SS Sojourner, a new Lunar Rover - class Light Cruiser. He was given a clean bill of health and assigned as the ship’s MACO Command Officer.
