Hair: Black, short and swept back.
Beard: light stubble, groomed in a ‘Balbo’ style beard.

Physical:
Tall and solid, Duncan doesn’t go overboard but keeps himself in good shape. He has an angular face and jaw, which he frames with a very light ‘Balbo’ style beard that he takes pains to keep tidy and presentable. He stands straight and rarely slouches or leans on things, a by product of a strict military style boarding school upbringing. He currently has two tattoo’s, one is a large black ink tattoo of a Phoenix on his back rising in flames from the ashes and the other on his left arm, running from his shoulder down to just below his elbow contains images also in black ink of wild Earth animals such as wolves, tigers, eagles and the like, all woven together in smoke.

Personality:
Duncan can come across as serious and focused on his work, and has a keen desire to make sure those under him are given every opportunity to meet their full potential and succeed. He expects everybody to do their best and seldom accepts anything less, which is a result of his schooling and personal work ethic. In more casual environments he has a great interest in art, especially body art, and the way in which other cultures express themselves through it, he intends on writing a paper in Astral Sociology focusing on different cultures’ body art practices. Socially, he is easy going and open to other cultures.

Education:
Duncan did well at the Duke of Yorks Royal Military School, an old fashioned educational institution with a history of centuries, doing particularly well at Science and History classes, passing with easily enough credits to earn entry to Starfleet Academy. He also sought private tuition on languages and martial arts, obtaining his Red belt with a single black stripe in Chun Kuk Do and being able to speak Klingon fluently, with a smattering of ability in Vulcan, Bajoran and Andorian, usually enough to get by on introductions and basic conversation. He had not been able to return to his martial arts club on Earth for final grading in many years, so possibly is at the standards required for his black belt, but is fiercely loyal to his club so happy to wait for his return before being graded.
Entering Starfleet Academy at 18 once he had completed his schooling, Duncan graduated with very good grades in Astrophysics, Geophysics and Anthropology

Interests:
Art in general is a main interest, especially body art. He still practices Chun Kuk Do and keeps practicing the tenets of the martial art in his every day life. He enjoys dining, especially foods from different cultures, which he likens to another form of art. He has begun to take an interest in music as another art-form, and practices a meditation that he was taught on his previous ship by a Vulcan friend. Sports wise, he participates in a number of other sports, Fencing one that stands out.

Flaws:
Sometimes difficult to get to know if he is focused on his job, he expects everybody to always be at their best, especially while in uniform. In formal situations he can come across as aloof or indifferent. His body art is a way of expressing, even just to himself, that he really has a heart and cares more deeply about people than he shows.

Medical:
Diagnosed from an early age with sleeping disorders, he took medication for many years but has learned to deal with it through being taught Vulcan meditation as a form of relaxation, as well as a commitment to his martial arts and self discipline.
