Sozi Zakene

Character Biography

Born in 2369 to Sozi Komeg and Orbe Neyal on Bajor, Zakene was always different from most children.

While most boys his age would rather wrestle, fight, and play more physical games, Zakene was always able to be found either at a temple, or hanging around some diplomats who would visit. From an early age, Zakene was taught about being a religious leader, as many of the Vedeks saw promise in him.

However, by his early teens, Zakene was on a completely different path, that of a diplomat. He would occasionally accompany various Bajoran diplomats up to Deep Space 9 as it flourished, and would listen in as an aide, in an effort to get into the career. Shortly after he turned 18, Zakene was gearing up to become an ambassador, when he was approached by a Starfleet Captain who’d been there at one of the diplomatic meetings Zakene had been an aide at. The young man had impressed him by his knowledge and ability to suggest options and solutions, despite not being trained as a diplomat, and the Captain offered to sponsor Zakene’s enrollment in Starfleet Academy.

After taking a few days to consider his options, including asking the advice of his family, Zakene agreed, and just a month later, was attending his first classes at Starfleet Academy. His academy years are relatively uneventful, except for becoming the resident diplomat amongst his class, being asked to mediate every little squabble they had.

After his graduation, in 2391, Zakene briefly returned home to Bajor, before beginning his first assignment, as an Attache aboard a medical ship. He found this assignment quite boring, and most of his job consisted of learning various alien languages and calming down frantic civilians the ship brought aboard–be they family of patients or patients themselves.

Zakene spent far too long at this assignment, before finally finding an assignment that seemed to be more exciting, aboard the Manhattan in the Delta Quadrant. Applying for a transfer, Zakene was hoping to get out of the mundane assignment.
