Biography:
Born to a high-ranking politician and a celebrated sculptor and inventor, Kad’n Rul and his twin sister Kad’j were seen as destined for greatness from the time they first drew breath. It was this perspective that shaped both of them and the lives they have led.
Kad’n possessed a brilliant mind, even at a young age. His understanding of mathematics was uncanny; including such fields as geometry, calculus, trigonometry, and physics. His sister, on the other hand, was gifted as well, but physically. While Kad’n excelled in academics, Kad’j became a stellar athlete. When they both came of age, they were immediately taken into the Imperial Training Program: Kad’n for Engineering and Kad’j for fighting. Both excelled in their respective arenas, but due to the nature of the training both siblings rarely saw one another. It was this disconnection that would have serious implications on Kad’n in the future.
A gifted student with a seemingly intuitive understanding of engineering principals and their real-world applications; Kad’n rose to an elite level within the Imperial Training Program. Graduating with honors, he was immediately assigned to an Imperial warbird: IWB Nightwing. Their mission was to escort civilian trade ships through problematic regions of Imperial space and, unbeknownst to Kad’n at the beginning, was to ferret out Reman Separatist activity. It wasn’t until a pair of Separatists were captured and Rul was tasked with devising ways of interrogating them that he began to become aware of perceptions of the Empire outside of the closed-off life he had had up to that point.
Rul had a stellar career for some time, but in the back of his mind settled an idea that perhaps, just perhaps, the Empire was not the flawless jewel of the Galaxy he had been told all his life it was. That thought took root and, despite earning multiple medals for bravery and service to the Imperial Fleet, Kad’n started to become jaded. This culminated in a singular event aboard the PWB Damned, commanded by Admiral Has Valdore.
As the Chief Engineer, Kad’n was handpicked by the Admiral himself. But when he was tasked with modifying torpedoes with a biological weapon the Admiral intended to use on a civilian population of Orion refugees who had crashed on an unpopulated planet, but a planet within Romulan space, Kad’n refused. He even struck the Admiral down when he became enraged and lashed out at Kad’n. Rul was placed in custody and court-martialed. He would have been executed had it not been for the singular fact that the order from the Admiral was violation of the treaty between Romulus and the Federation which expressly forbade the use of biological weapons on non-combatants. Rul was demoted and sent to a Reeducation Center. He called his sister, now a sub-commander and with no small amount of political clout, to assist him. She scolded him for becoming so ‘soft’ and ordered him never to contact her again. He spent a year in the center and upon graduating was deemed ‘rehabilitated’. But the taint of his insubordination clung to him. Finally, a ship was found that would take him on. He left the Center and travelled directly to the Rovarran; hoping to rebuild what he had lost. But his view of the Empire had not been erased… instead it had grown stronger. But he now knew to keep it to himself. At least… until he could do something with it.
