Biography

Ben is the youngest of three, born in England in 2380. His first experience of Starfleet was at the age of 2, when his parents were assigned as the Executive Officer and Chief Engineer on the USS Devonshire. Ben, along with his brother (Thomas) and sister (Mary) spent three years on board the ship whilst it conducted scientific research outside of Federation space.

His time in space was short lived, with his sister catching a previously unknown infection whilst the family were on shore leave, leaving her paralysed from the neck down. Needing to provide full time care, his mother retired to Starfleet and his father took up a desk job within Starfleet Headquarters in London. However, the time in space had set the spark within Ben to want to join Starfleet, whilst his sister’s condition made him want to spend his life healing people rather than fixing self-sealing stem bolts. His fate to become a Doctor in Starfleet seemed set.

Focusing his studies on the sciences, he attended Imperial College London where he read Medicine. During that time, he discovered a love for home cooked food and enjoyed cooking; although initially he learnt to become very adept at using a fire extinguisher. Once he completed his studies, he joined Starfleet Academy at the age of 25, before being assigned to the USS Saratoga.

Over the year, Ben has been stationed in San Francisco working in Starfleet Medical as the assistant to Commodore Quinn, who was leading Starfleet’s research into medical diseases of newly explored planets. This allowed Ben to see some of the research being done within the field that had had a direct impact on his sister.

Ben enjoys recreational use of the holodeck, including swimming, sailing and cycling, and is a fan of both the Oxford comma and a double space after a full stop.
