Background
Yuri was very different from the start. He used to be a very tall, thin, lanky child up until he became a teenager. Although it’s almost unheard of on Earth, there is still some discrimination here and there. Having an aversion to conflict and violence he naturally wanted to avoid it at all costs. He had seen some of these children do violent things to animals for the sake of entertainment and it always pained him that he could do nothing to help the poor creatures. His parents were in Starfleet and he was often taken care of for long periods of time by his grandparents. Eventually he too followed in his parents footsteps, although through his own path. He wanted to pursue the medical route in order to heal, not harm. There was far too much harm taking place in the world and from the moment he learned of the hippocratic oath, it almost became like a vow, a virtue to him.

I swear to fulfill, to the best of my ability and judgment, this covenant:
I will respect the hard-won scientific gains of those physicians in whose steps I walk, and gladly share such knowledge as is mine with those who are to follow.
I will apply, for the benefit of the sick, all measures [that] are required, avoiding those twin traps of overtreatment and therapeutic nihilism.
I will remember that there is art to medicine as well as science, and that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon’s knife or the chemist’s drug.
I will not be ashamed to say “I know not,” nor will I fail to call in my colleagues when the skills of another are needed for a patient’s recovery.
I will respect the privacy of my patients, for their problems are not disclosed to me that the world may know. Most especially must I tread with care in matters of life and death. If it is given me to save a life, all thanks. But it may also be within my power to take a life; this awesome responsibility must be faced with great humbleness and awareness of my own frailty. Above all, I must not play at God.
I will remember that I do not treat a fever chart, a cancerous growth, but a sick human being, whose illness may affect the person’s family and economic stability. My responsibility includes these related problems, if I am to care adequately for the sick.
I will prevent disease whenever I can, for prevention is preferable to cure.
I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those sound of mind and body as well as the infirm.
If I do not violate this oath, may I enjoy life and art, respected while I live and remembered with affection thereafter. May I always act so as to preserve the finest traditions of my calling and may I long experience the joy of healing those who seek my help.

These words became his foundation. He especially took one of the earliest lines of the development of the hippocratic oath to heart. “First, do no harm.” He has never once, raised a fist or sought retaliation against those who have wronged him. Over time he did learn a bit of psychology which in turn he chose to reflect upon himself and change from within. He eventually got more into exercise and weight lifting. Now he stand a very tall, muscular man, shaved bald, but he grows a thick, full beard. Which outwardly makes him very intimidating. If not for the Starfleet uniform, one could easily mistake him for a holosuite mafia character from the early 1900’s. This outward appearance immediately dissuaded those around him to seek conflict with him. Despite not being a fighter, but a healer, he didn’t mind the stigma.

Psychological History (If Any)
The first and foremost the easily apparent thing one would notice about Yuri if around long enough or if in dire situations is that Yuri is a pacifist. He will not fight or harm others, even with Phasers set to stun, unless it was a medical necessity where the patient would harm himself more than if incapacitated. He tends to avoid conflict, but does not have any issues conversing his thoughts. He prefers a discussion, rather than argument. He will take a stand on his beliefs, but enjoys learning about the beliefs of others and why they think in such manners. If he can persuade others from doing harm he will without hesitation. He doesn’t really have any fears aside from the unknown and secudes himself after situations in which he can’t save a life. This doesn’t last long and doesn’t appear to have any long term effects on him though. He seems to just sort out his feelings and figures out a way to try and do better next time. If he’s not in a discussion with someone he tends to remain quiet and inconspicuous.
