Kaylin Wilde (Born Kaylin McCauley)

Kaylin was born on a human colony world located close to the border of where the Romulan neutral zone was once drawn. When the planet was struck by a sudden plague, Star Fleet ships were stalled in getting the required medical supplies to the planet. Before the supplies could arrive, both of her parents died of the disease. She was relocated to a Federation - run orphanage at the age of seven, along with several other of the colony’s children.

She was a rather intelligent child with a penchant for troublemaking. Because of her intelligence, Kaylin preferred to hang out mostly with the young teens. They were convinced that it was Star Fleet’s fault that their parents had died, an attitude which Kaylin also adopted. So as she grew, she found more and more reason to distrust the Federation and Star Fleet, and by the time she was sixteen she ran away from the orphanage.

She started working for an independent cargo delivery company. First loading cargo, then filling orders, and finally charting courses. After years of working her way up, Kaylin was finally trusted to pilot her own ship. However, her habit of bending certain rules and skirting regulations got her company in some trouble. So, she took her severance, bought her own ship and captained it her way. It was a small yet nimble mining vessel, which she used to both scavenge dilithium ore deposits and carry small amounts of cargo. Usually finding herself in the most dangerous parts of the galaxy in the process. She battled pirates, outran Klingons, and was even at one point captured by the Romulan Free State.

However, one time while returning from Romulan-controlled space, a Star Fleet patrol intercepted and searched her ship. It’s unknown why Kaylin surrendered to the vessel, but it could have had something to do with excessive damage to the ship itself from a recent fight with the Romulans. She was eventually charged with transporting illegal goods, transporting dangerous materials without a permit, and illegally violating the sovereign space of multiple governments.

After serving five years of her eight year sentence she was released on parole. With a criminal record limiting her options, she was stuck on another human colony world. Surviving, but not living. However, one of her former crew mates, who had also served some time, suggested she apply for a NCO position in Star Fleet. Kaylin laughed at the idea at first, working for the same Federation that killed her parents. But it was better than colony life as far as she was concerned.

Kaylin proved to be two things, an excellent navigator and difficult to work with. She was a great shuttle pilot, and wasn’t too bad an operations officer. Though most of her problems came when interacting with her superiors. Her sarcastic and apathetic attitude made her a frequent candidate for transfers. This time, for an unknown reason, to the top-secret ship Leviathan.
