Character Biography

Born in Inverness in Scotland and lived there until his parents’ divorce when he was 9. He moved with his Mother to the southern United States where his mother remarried a Texan Farmer. as a form of a survival tactic, William adapted his accent to the local soft Texan accent as they lived not too far from Austin. His father was a Theoretical Physicist that joined Starfleet after the divorce and was stationed on a Martian Science Outpost, this became the inspiration for his joining Starfleet.

As a Child, he was wholly unremarkable when it came to his intelligence but when he was twelve years old it was as if someone hit the turbo button on his mind and everything went into overdrive. He became highly intelligent, focused and driven. It was as if he’d been rebooted as a person. This also led to physical and psychological problems that he deals with on a regular basis.

He was accepted into the University of Princeton at the age of 15 and graduated there with a Doctorate in Physics, a masters in xenobiology and a Bachelors Degree in Genetics. A true Child prodigy he was accepted into Starfleet Academy at the age of 18. He studied at the Academy for three years before graduating from the Science department.

The destruction of Vulcan and the attack on earth in 2258 was another catalyst in his joining Starfleet. He witnessed the footage taken of the USS Enterprise saving the planet. He was focused on becoming a member of Starfleet after that. He personally witnessed the crash of the USS Vengeance into San Fransisco as he had been there visiting the Starfleet Academy Grounds. It shook him and almost derailed his plans to Joins Starfleet, but a part of him convinced him to join again because of the Heroics of the crew of the USS Enterprise.

He was almost expelled from the academy during his first year due to a growing rivalry with a psychologist that had diagnosed him mentally unfit for duty. The charges were dropped and wiped from his record when evidence emerged that the psychologist had faked evidence supporting the mental unfitness of the young scientist. The psychologist proclaimed his innocence saying that one of the Grey’s had set him up.

William served an extra year assisting Starfleet professors at the Academy as a Teaching Assistant. He was granted the Rank of Lieutenant after a year there then was assigned to the USS Chernov under Captain Stovik as the ship’s Chief Science Officer.

Shortly after Stovik was removed from command, his successor Captain Taggart promoted the then 24-year-old Science Officer to Lieutenant Commander and made him the Chernovs Second Officer, a position he was nearly ten years too young for. Since that time he has served as acting First Officer on at least four different occasions. He passed the Bridge Officers Examination with distinction like he did most tests.

After an off-the-books operation on the Klingon Homeworld of Qo’noS, a mission where William was once again placed in Command of the Bridge as the Senior staff prepared for a rescue operation on planet. A Klingon Bird of Prey decloaked across the bow from their stolen Romulan ship. To avoid a direct confrontation William transported over to the Klingon warship in disguise to converse with the Klingon Captain whilst the crew completed their rescue operation.

For his participation in the Mission he alongside all other crew members was awarded Awarded the Starfleet Medal of Valor and William and the away team were awarded with The Starfleet Citation for Conspicuous Gallantry for their actions.

Physical Description:
Tall and thin with intense green eyes. He is moderately handsome although very young looking.

Although he originally had a thinner frame he’s somewhat bulked out through years of heavy exercise to be able to keep up with the pace of the ship. He’s still thinner and lighter than many others but he’s managed to increase his stamina and overall fitness, allowing him to keep pace with the more active members of the Chernov Crew.

Psychologically speaking William is a unique case. His Grandfather was deeply interested in genetic manipulation and di several experimentations on himself. Although they resulted in almost no immediate changes they did effectively turn him Insane in his later years. Although this family secret didn’t seem to affect his children it did affect William due to the unique circumstances of his birth and birthmother. He was born extremely sensitive to any and all Smells and pheromones. These signs did not start to show themselves until his so-called reboot. It was then that he started exhibiting signs of a psychotic break and the words Dissociative Identity Disorder was being discussed in his home. It was as if there were two people inhabiting his body. The ultra-driven, highly intelligent, pragmatic and almost sociopathic Scientist and the Charming, philosophical and caring everyman. After extensive studies, it became clear to the doctors he was sent to that Will was simply very compartmentalized and didn’t let anything get in his way so he behaved one way when dealing with the Sciences and his studies and another when dealing with family and friends.

This, however, was as far from the truth as possible. There are currently three inhabitants in the Mind of William B. Grey. Doctor Wiliam, the Ph.D. with no time for anything but his work. Will, the everyman poet and lover of people who considered it his duty to be friendly and kind. There is a third that is not spoken off. Someone they would not punish the world with.

The Three minds do however agree that they are not the result of a traumatic childhood nor a psychological divergence. They have several theories that they will spend their entire lives searching for if necessary. That and the Cure to the Grey Curse.
