Character Biography

Rado Gainn has always been fascinated by Outer Space, ever since he was a boy growing up in the Bajoran city of Hathon. There were several times when he would attempt to smuggle onto Cardassian ships leaving Bajor. He succeeded in getting on board only once, only to be discovered before the ship left orbit. He was, of course, punished for this, leaving him with somewhat of a limp that was recently cured by the former medical officer.

His parents and sister Xamis were among the fifteen Hathon farmers who were executed for refusing to fly the Cardassian banner outside of their farmhouse. He would have been executed too, had he not been playing Springball with his friend Ragu Gasha at the time. Their deaths gave Rado a strong distain, if not hatred, for the Cardassian Union.

When the Occupation of Bajor ended, Rado quickly applied to Starfleet Academy and was accepted but lacked enough money for transport. With the help of his aforementioned friend Ragu Gasha, he performed on the streets to pay for transport. After about year or so, Rado had lost hope of achieving his dreams of reaching the stars. But the day after he told Gasha that they should just gave up, Gasha showed up with the money he needed. She would not answer any questions the bewildered Gainn had about she obtained said money, rather she made him promise that he would one day be captain of a starship. That’s not something he really wants, which he feels some guilt.

At the Academy, he proved to be a passionate combatant, no doubt channeling his rage over his family’s murder. He is eager to serve on the USS Memorial on his first assignment.

Likes: Bajor, outer space, Kava juice, groatcakes, jumja sticks, Emissionary Benjamin Sisko, Shakaar Edon, Li Nalas. The Prophets, US president Lyndon Johnson (bares strong resembles to his father)
Dislikes: Cardassians, Moopsy, Jaro Essa, the Circle, Vedek/Kai Winn Adami, Earth food (usually gives him stomach aches), the fact that humans don’t have nose ridges, people assuming that his surname is Gainn, the idea of going by the name “Gainn Rado” in order to conform to Federation naming standards, Pah-wraiths, people knowing that the real reason why he doesn’t have the Bajoran earring was because he was too squeamish as a boy
