Appearance
Skin: Her body is covered in a fine layer of chocolate-brown fur that is nearly invisible but gives her yellow-tinted skin a warm, soft appearance.
Eyes: Almond-shaped, reflecting her Japanese ancestry, with one green eye and one amber eye. Both feature feline slit pupils, creating a striking, memorable gaze.
Hair: Black with red highlights and tips, styled in a punk-inspired side shave. While on duty, she ties her hair back to adhere to Starfleet regulations.
Ears & Tail: Makoto has long, pointed Caitian ears covered in chocolate-brown fur. Her prehensile Caitian tail is both elegant and practical, often serving as an extra limb for holding tools or steadying herself in engineering situations.
Cybernetic Arm: After losing her right arm in a childhood shuttle accident, she wears a customized cybernetic replacement made of unpainted duranium. The arm is visibly modified with advanced tools and scanners, reflecting her engineering expertise. While normally calibrated to match the natural strength of a Caitian-human hybrid, it includes a strength-boost protocol that can temporarily enhance her abilities at the cost of the functionality of the arm until a power cell can be replaced.
Piercings: Off-duty, she enjoys a punk aesthetic, sporting piercings in her ears, nose, lower lip, tongue, and belly button. She removes them during duty hours to maintain Starfleet’s professional standards.
Build: Makoto has a curvy figure, enhanced by fillers while awaiting the full effects of HRT. Her frame is strong and sturdy from years of physical engineering work.
Backstory
Makoto grew up in a multicultural household, the daughter of a human father from Japan and a Caitian mother. She inherited her parents’ values of innovation and tradition, developing a passion for engineering from a young age. Inspired by legends like Montgomery Scott, she quickly earned a reputation as a prodigy due to her natural talent with machinery and problem-solving.

Her hybrid physiology gave her a natural balance of human ingenuity and Caitian dexterity, but her clumsiness has been a lifelong quirk. When focused on her work, Makoto is as graceful as any Caitian, demonstrating precision and fluidity that highlight her brilliance. However, in casual settings, her relaxed state often leads to unintentional mishaps—bumping into furniture, knocking over tools, or tripping over her tail.

Though she has tried to work on improving her coordination, Makoto’s clumsiness is a source of humor and affection among her friends and colleagues. Her accidents are rarely serious and often serve as icebreakers or moments of levity in tense situations.

Makoto recently began her gender transition after years of introspection and counseling. She chose to wait until adulthood to ensure she was fully confident in her decision. She now presents fully as female and is learning to embrace her identity, balancing the challenges of personal growth with the responsibilities of her role in Starfleet.

At 25, she was promoted to Chief Engineer aboard the USS Memorial after her innovative work on warp core efficiency caught Starfleet’s attention. While she excels in technical challenges, she occasionally struggles with the perfectionism and self-imposed pressure that come with her ambitions.

Personality and Traits
Engineering Genius: Makoto’s innovative mind and technical prowess allow her to solve problems creatively and efficiently.
Clumsy Charm: Outside of work, Makoto’s clumsiness is a defining trait. Whether it’s spilling her drink in the mess hall or accidentally dropping a hyperspanner, her mishaps bring humor and humanity to her interactions. Her colleagues have learned to gently tease her about it, knowing it’s part of her charm.
Tail Dexterity: Makoto’s tail is a unique asset, capable of holding tools or stabilizing her in tight spaces. It compensates for her occasional clumsiness, especially during intense work.
Perfectionist Drive: While her high standards push her to excel, they can also lead to stress and difficulty delegating tasks to her team.
Inspired by Legends: Makoto dreams of becoming a “Miracle Worker” like her idol Montgomery Scott, someone who can achieve the impossible under pressure.
