Amala was born to Makali and Denai on Aldea in 2366 as one of the first naturally born children in decades on the planet. From a young age she showed extraordinary skill in science, particularly biology and chemistry, and when she was older she took a keen interest in medicine, particularly in alien physiology.
Although her parents were very reluctant for her to leave Aldea, Amala was desperate to travel to other worlds and meet new species. After qualifying as a doctor, she worked at the Central Hospital on Aldea to appease her parents but two years later, she couldn’t shake the feeling she needed to travel and joined a civilian freighter, the Tivara, as their medic. Amala loved exploring new cultures and meeting new species and she proved to be a valuable asset to the crew. Whilst en route to deliver terraforming supplies to Oed V, they came across the USS Dauntless, a federation ship which had been damaged in a battle with a rogue Romulan vessel. The Tivara rendered aid and Amala tended to the Dauntless’ crew, becoming especially close with the chief medical officer, Lt Cmdr Havard. Amala was fascinated by how close the crew seemed to be, almost like they were family and she was keen to experience the same. Havard sent a letter of recommendation for Amala to join star-fleet academy as the first Aldean to join the federation. She was accepted and started at the academy the following year. At first it was a bit of a culture shock to her but she soon learned to embrace campus life and made some very close friends. She excelled in her studies and graduated third in her class. Although they were initially reluctant given Aldea’s unfortunate past with the federation, her parents saw how happy she was and gave their blessing for her to join a federation crew.
Amala’s first posting had been on the USS Washington as a junior doctor. She made some good friends but struggled to fully integrate with the crew. Although Aldea had made extraordinary advances since their encounter with the USS Enterprise, there was still an undercurrent of isolation and mistrust, particularly from the older generation so Amala always felt a bit of conflict between her career and her home. After 2 years aboard the Washington, another post became available on the USS Bradbury and her CMO recommended she applied. Amala found it easier to integrate aboard the Bradbury and earned several commendations for her exemplary work in trauma medicine and alien pathogens. She remained on board the Bradbury for 3 years and thoroughly enjoyed her time there, making lifelong friends but she had progressed as far as she could and she felt she wanted to push herself with a new challenge so when the CMO position became available on the Ark Angel, she applied.

2386 - Amala becomes a qualified doctor and works in the Central Hospital on Aldea
2388 - Joins the crew of the Tivara as their medical officer
2391 - Whilst delivering supplies to Oed V, the Tivara renders assistance to the USS Dauntless
2392 - Amala joins star-fleet academy and majors in medicine
2396 - Graduates third in her class and is assigned to the USS Washington
2398 - Reassigned to USS Bradbury
2399 - Amala earns a commendation for her decisive action and quick thinking on an away team mission to a mining accident on Indira IV
2399 - Promoted to Lt (jg)
2401 - Promoted to CMO and reassigned to USS Ark Angel
