Character Biography

Appearance: The Hatriku are bipedal reptilian humanoids, lizard-like in appearance. They come in various colorings and shades, as varied as earth reptiles. They have long, snake-like tails. Gavain himself is a dark grey color, with two bright yellow stripes running along from his nose over his forehead and down his back and to the tip of his tail.
Gavain is a male of his species, but a human wouldn’t be able to tell that at first glance, as they have a lack of sexual dimorphism, by human standards. [As non-mammals, they lack mammary glands, and their body shapes are relatively similar. Even when unclothed the difference is still invisible to humans, as their genitals are not exterior. As a result of this, female Hatriku who have dealings with Humanity and other mammalian races have a tendency to paint their chins with shades of various colours]

History:
Gavain was raised in a small city, built around the ruins of an old castle from a period in Galdor’s history roughly equivalent to Earth’s medieval period. He had a deep interest in that time period, and was the kind of kid who makes models of things (specifically, castles and other things from that time period).
In his teens, he became fascinated with electronics, computer programming, and the like. For a couple of years that’s what he looked into. When he graduated from secondary education, he happened to be in the right place at the right time to sign up for the Starfleet Initiative, a program that has been in place for the past century to place Galdorians into Starfleet.
Gavain was one of the lucky few, and worked his tail off to get it. He was enrolled in Starfleet, taking a combination of science, engineering, and operations classes. He wasn’t entirely certain what department he wanted to work in, but when he graduated, it was in operations.
He served aboard a few ships over the past eight years, rising to the ranks until he reached where he is now.

Species Information:
The Hatriku are one of five sentient species on their home planet.
Laleri- Lupine, wolf-like creatures. Human-level intelligence.
Raka- Small feline creatures, similar in size and anatomy to Rocket Racoon. Human-level intelligence, but not great at language.
Hatriku- highly adaptable reptilian creatures, humanoid. Human-level intelligence.
Arwan- Bipedal deer/goat-like creatures, two to three feet in stature. Human-level intelligence.
Pipini- aquatic creatures vaguely similar to dolphins. Low-level sentience.
These races grew up on a single planet together, and co-operate impressively. When the races gained space flight, it was the Hatriku in positions of command, Laleri in security, Arwan as science and medical officers, and the Raka as engineers. Those of the Pipini tend to prefer not to leave their oceans. They developed Warp roughly around the mid to late 1900s (earth time), and had warp about 1 warp factor higher than earth by the time they were encountered by a human vessel around 2250. The planet of Galdor is in an appropriate sector for them to have been discovered in the stated time period. After much deliberation and consideration, and after sending a group of officers to be a part of Starfleet on diplomatic loan, they finally joined the Federation around 2290.
