Character Biography

Health
- His left hand causes technology of various kinds to go haywire. He has a regular medication that he takes to control the effects. He tends to favour his right hand when it comes to using technology.
- He is in good health otherwise, having recovered from the ordeal suffered at the hands of the Mirror Universe Terrans a few years ago.
- He had a relapse into the effects of the trauma of the event involving the Mirror Universe Terrans (think PTSD) but the medical/psychological professionals have cleared him for active duty; ie not restricted to Starfleet Command/Academy.

Psychological Profile
- Following the time when John-King was taken captive by the Mirror Universe Terrans, replaced by his Mirror Universe counterpart and tortured to reveal Federation codes to the Columbia, John-King was psychologically profiled and analysed by a team of Federation Counselors for any residue effects of the suffering he endured. It was concluded he was cleared to serve as Counselor on ships, however it has been ‘unofficially’ recommended that he not be promoted beyond the rank of Lt Commander.
- John-King takes his duties as guardian to his nephew very seriously, even though he doubts his effectiveness as a guardian to some extent. His nephew decided on a civilian career in the arts and is currently pursuing studies in music.
- John-King has subsequently requested that he be limited in rank to full Lieutenant as he doesn’t want to be put in the position where he can be the cause of danger to the Federation or its citizens.
- John-King has resigned his Starfleet commission, stating he doesn’t have what it takes to be effective as a Starfleet officer anymore, particularly as a Counselor. He said he would rather serve drink orders than follow orders.
History
He is the oldest son of Zach and Maria MacKenzie who were civilians on DS4 on the Klingon Border. His father was the owner of a bar and his mother worked as a waitress. John-King and his younger brother James grew up there, they both entered Starfleet, James entered Security, while John-King (JK for short) entered Medical and then the advanced Counseling courses. James returned to DS4 as a Security Officer and married a local civilian, and they had a son, Leon McKenzie, who, like his father and uncle, grew up on the station. JK, however, served on a variety of Starfleet vessels and installations, and was always on the move.

In time, John-King got the news he dreaded most … his parents and brother and sister-in-law were all killed, leaving the 8 year old Leon orphaned. John-King agreed to become guardian of the boy and took him with him to the Columbia when John-King was assigned as their Counselor. Following the ending of his tour of duty on that ship, during which the cause of technology malfunctioning around him was diagnosed as being caused by his left hand coming into contact with said technology and him being taken captive, interrogated and replaced by his mirror universe counterpart, John-King served aboard the Medical ship, the USS Ogawa, before being transferred to the Europa and then back to the Ogawa once more. A recurrence of the trauma resurfaced and he was placed on indefinite leave of absence at Starfleet Command. He also felt that he was a risk to the safety of Federation ships to be at the rank of Lieutenant Commander or higher, and so has asked to be reduced in rank to Full Lieutenant. After much discussion, his request was accepted by his superiors at Starfleet Command. He returned to active duty as a tutor at Starfleet Academy on Earth, and doing his own studies of a Doctorate in Psychological Studies.

John-King tried to return to active service as Counselor on the USS Asimov, but it didn’t work out too well for him, he couldn’t get into the lifestyle of a Starfleet officer once again and it wasn’t long before he walked away from Starfleet, resigning his commission and following the path of his long-deceased father - that of a bartender / lounge host.

Now, just fo find himself a ship to serve drinks on.
