Backstory
Born in New York City to Peter and Mary Holloway (neé Wright), Erin Leah Hazen (born Erin Leah Holloway) is the youngest of two children.

With her mother’s unexpected passing during childbirth, Erin came to this world into a family desperately trying to hold itself afloat – her father, an overworked subway conductor for the New York City Port Authority, and Molly, her older sister, born six years prior.

Struggling with the death of his wife, stress at work, and with trying to raise two young daughters on his own, Peter’s mild problem with alcohol turned into full blown alcoholism. What had once been a sometimes violent household was now seeing violence on a daily basis, as Peter arrived home late in the evening, already drunk, leaving his older daughter to take care of her younger sister.

Although coming from a household with an abusive father, Erin doesn’t remember most of it, as Molly, taking on the role of protecting and caring for her younger sister from an early age, was usually be the one who would take on their father’s violent outbursts, shielding Erin from most of it.

When Erin was four, Molly took her and ran away from home. They stowed away on a shuttle going to San Francisco. The only thing that Erin remembers from the night was standing in front of her father trying to stop him from hitting her sister and of being enclosed in a dark space near a crate containing a large dog. In San Francisco, the girls were sheltered by an ex-Starfleet officer that eventually adopted them as his own.

Erin’s upbringing was peaceful and happy. She was homeschooled until she turned eleven, age in which she enrolled in Harker School, in San Jose, where she remained all through High School. At eighteen years of age Erin enrolled in a BSc in Biology at UCLA, from where she graduated among the top of her class.

On her second year at UCLA, Erin applied for the Science in Space program. The Science In Space (SIS), then in its 85th year, is an academic partnership between Starfleet Academy, the UFP, and numerous public and private universities that makes space available for Sophomores and Juniors to spend between 9 weeks to a full school year in working, paid internships on Federation vessels in the students’ selected field of study.

Her first application put her aboard the USS Turing, the vessel commanded by her sister. However, Molly’s untimely removal from command brought her internship to a halt even before it started and she went back to Los Angeles to take on the second year of her studies. Reapplying the following year, Erin managed to spend six months as an intern with the Science department of the USS Dresden.

Traveling back to Earth, Erin found herself wishing to be back in space. On her fourth and final year, concurrently to her regular courses, Erin enrolled in the necessary extra credit classes with the Starfleet outreach program, which would allow her to learn the basic knowledge she would need in order to be a Starfleet officer. The summer after her graduation, Erin enrolled in Officer Candidate School where she finally met the Starfleet requirements to serve on a starship. Her grades and effort made it possible for her to start with the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade.

Her first assignment was on board the USS Asimov where she remains to this day, serving as a member of the Science division.

Personality
Erin is a party animal. She is a cheerful and flirty person (much to her sister’s annoyance, although both get along very well). When the situation arises she can be quite childish in nature.

She’s by far not as strict as her sister nor does she have a particular aptness for following the rules. Erin is however a scientific mind and sometimes much more curious than prudence would mandate.

Medical Records
Erin is a healthy young woman. Her records show a one week stay at Starfleet Medical in San Francisco for observation when she was four years old, to monitor signs of physical abuse and to make sure she was in complete health after what seemed to be one week of homelessness. She also has reports of a moderate concussion during her third year of high school suffered on a stunting accident, and a stress fracture on her right ankle sustained during her second year of college. Both injuries were tied to her cheerleading practice. Other than that, she has nothing worth of notice in her file.

Psychological Records
When she was four, Erin was followed by a counselor for a full year, to make sure her father’s physical abuse didn’t leave lasting damage. Erin has always proved to be healthy and seemingly unaffected by her early childhood, but the adverse reaction her sister, Molly, had to the same therapy, made Starfleet Medical decide to observe her for a longer period of time. Aside from the notes from this year, Erin is healthy at a psychological level, never having had any problem.
