Character Biography

Guy is a security officer on the USS Merrimack who has a fear of being killed or mortally injured. He has a wife and three kids. He was born in Dayton, Ohio. He has never been to the West coast of the North American continent. He is not travelled very widely on Earth.

He was reported as being cowardly and close to being placed on report for poor performance. He is not trained to any high level in hand-to-hand combat above the basic training given to Security recruits in the Academy. He had no experience in Karate or any Japanese martial arts. At the academy he was mainly Boxing and Kick-Boxing with a few eclectic moves added in for good measure.

When Guy first entered the Academy, aged 25, he did not expect to spend every day wondering if he would return from a landing party or not. He thought that being a security officer would be standing around a lot, checking passes, checking locked doors and forcefields, guarding prisoners in the Brig. He expected lots of record keeping and box ticking, with some intelligence gathering on folks who were a bit suspicious, and maybe a little reception work at Starfleet HQ. He hoped for possibly some detective work when office stationery went missing, or someone was selling contraband. This is what you would expect if Starfleet were a peacekeeping force, and its Security officers were space police officers.

However, he found that Starfleet was more of a space navy, and redshirts were the foot soldiers. They did not mention Upside Down Caves, Time Travelling Anarchists, Borgovian Sand Worms, and Salt Vampires. They said there was “Peace in Our Time” with the Klingons, but they failed to mention battles with the Bolay, or the Gorn, or Tholians! Starfleet vessels are supposed to be charting new worlds and making diplomacy with new planetary governments, not fighting against the armies of every weird new species they come across! And that is just the intelligent species… some planets have plant life that is out to get you… or pools of black goo to step in, or lethal rock creatures that spray acid! It is as if the entire Galaxy was designed just for one specific purpose: to destroy us! And out to destroy Guy in particular.

He was once aboard the USS Mary Celeste where he may have come across Borgovian Sand Worms himself. He still has bad dreams about these creatures. In his nightmare, the worms attack him, and he tries to shoot at their eyes, but then he realises that they have no eyes. This also explains why he cannot drink Tequila.

However, more recently Guy has been working with the medical team to overcome his fears and phobias. Professor of Psychiatry Major Stanley Wong was very helpful in this process. He is no longer afraid of being a member of a Landing Party.
