Character Biography

Born Ryzc Tuker, the young Bajoran had seen his fare share of terror. He was born into war, where his parents, who were part of the rebellion towards the Cardassians, were both captured and executed. Ryzc also would have been killed, if it wasn’t for a Cardassian woman, named Kora Ocet, asked to keep him. The war made her a victim as well, where her husband, Kotec Ocet, was killed. Kotec was a very high official on Bajor, and when the first signs of Bajor’s rebellion started, he was one of the first casualties. Her request was granted, and Ryzc grew up in the company of a race that he loathed. A race that killed his parents, his true parents. As time went on, he started to care for her.
He couldn’t think of anything else of her as his mother. Kora taught him not only Cardassian ways, but also the ways of Bajor.

Once the Cardassians left Bajor, many Cardassian women were abandoned or left. Many widows like Kora, knew Bajor was better, and that her teaching told him he needed to reach for something different. Once the occupation officially ended, and Terok Nor, the space station that circles above the planet was in Federation control, he knew what he wanted to do. He was gifted in the science, and wanted to take that gift to Star Fleet. He told Kora about his plans, and with her blessing, he took a shuttle up to the station, now called Deep Space Nine, and enlisted. Once in the academy, Ryzc never knew how happy he could be.

He would study, and do well in his classes, and when he could take time to go home, he would go and visit his adoptive mother. On his last year at the academy, he found out she was sick and dying. He didn’t want to leave her, but she insisted that he finish what he started. Be the best star fleet officer and Bajoran he could be. He returned to the station, and went up the the Chief Medical Officer, asking permission to bring his mother up here for the best care. With approval of the CO, she was allowed to leave Bajor, a home she new for half a century, and come up to Deep Space Nine for the remainder of her life, in constant care. Ryzc was happy, stating that he would see her at his graduation.

Kora fought and fought, and her sickness went into remission. She was able to go to earth, and see her son graduate, and watch him become a Bajoran she was proud of. The night before he left, he took her to places she never thought she’d see. Places she only heard about in Ryzc’s messages home. Ryzc was happy once more, as he boarded his shuttle to take him to his first command.

Ryzc was aboard the USS Endeavor for a number of years, promoted to LT (jg), and given an award for his daunting knowledge that saved the lives of 3 crewmen. After that moment, everything changed. He received word that his mother had become ill again. He took a LOA, and headed back to his home world. He arrived to DS9, and found out his mother went back down to the surface to finish out her long and fulfilled life. He stayed with his mother to the end, and 2 weeks later, she died of natural causes. He gave her a Bajoran burial, where he and numerous others performed the Bajoran Death Chant.

After the ceremony, Ryzc wanted to be closer to home. He went to the commander of DS9, and requested a transfer, hoping to get stationed there. The request for the transfer was requested, and was told that it could take some time. He had a few more weeks of LOA, and stayed aboard the station. One week later, he got a chime to come to the CO’s office. There he was informed that he would be allowed to transfer, however he was needed elsewhere. His request for DS9 was denied. He was being transferred to the USS Viking.

He was heartbroken, almost considered giving up his commission. He went to the surface of his home planet one more time, visited his home, where his mother was burried. He didn’t know what to do, but something was telling him quitting will get him nowhere. He knew his mother was telling him that somehow. With the remaining days of his LOA, he boarded up his home, grab some of his things, asked for those close to maintain it until he returned. He said goodbye to his mother one last time, and left for DS9. His next adventured awaits him, as he boarded a shuttle upon DS9 to take him on his way towards his new command.
