MEDICAL HISTORY
• 2382 - During admission to Academy, Cadet Steele tested a 95 ESPER Rating, which is far above normal. (The ESPER rating measures the potential of a given subject to develop unusual or psionic abilities, while not initially posessing them. This is usually subject to unusual circumstances. It is noted that an ESPER rating so high is rare among humans, but not unheard of.)
• 2391 - USS Olympic - Treated for multiple fractures, contusions and hematomas, including subdural hematoma, as well as humeral displasia (dislocated shoulder) after colliding with operations console on the bridge.
• 2391 - Experienced massive and virulent viral infection of central nervous system, rooted originally in right leg that, within minutes, worked its way through the spinal system and on to the brain. - This was the carrier for an intelligent organism that altered and modified Lt Steele’s central nervous system to allow her to communicate tele-empathically. It is unknown how this mechanism functions other than radical genetic alteration and abberation of the Cent Nv System.

The entity in question did alter her nervous system and brain to allow easier communication, it has left her altered permanently, giving her telepathic and empathic abilities, but without the training-from-youth that many telepathic societies engage in. This has lead to, among her physical and psychological recovery time, a leave of absence to gain control of those abilities.
